Good vibes, please!

Dh is in FL, as I type. Just had an interview yesterday (mon) and going on another Thurs. Yep, the Sunshine state. Well, y'all know I've been wanting to get out of the cold forever and this could be my ticket.

:)

I have family there - not too close, but close enough, so that would be nice. It would be tough being so far away from my DGD but at the same time, the jobs are scarce up here and the winters eternal.

Just for grins I'm looking at the houses in the area - just to be sure if we really want to be there. Wow, all rivers, canals, etc. I can see living like that, with my own boat hanging right off my deck and the canal right out my window.

Told dh I will not leave here - my home, my flowers - for just any ol' thing. It'll have to impress me. Jeez, for what I can get out of my house (which is paid off, and current economy considered), I can have something a bit smaller but on the water with a boat slip and a summer kitchen? Who knew!

:Dancing-Chilli::Dancing-Chilli::Dancing-Chilli::Dancing-Chilli::Dancing-Chilli:

I give that 5 dancing chilis.

He's driving around checking things out between interviews, trying to catch little lizzards, lol, calling me every hour. I told him I see us feeling very at home, mixing margaritas on the deck, waving at the neighbors passing in their boats.

The dogs will be freaking about the lizzards as I'm planting all my citrus trees...

Wish us luck!

Hey Cath!! You got it; keeping fingers crossed for you and DH. Sounds like an adventure and just the right place to set up camp. I hope everything goes well for DH's interview and just remember~~ planes are there for visits.

It's good to see you excited about the prospect of relocating!!!

I think it needs 10 chili's!!!!

FinLady 04-07-2009 07:54 AM

Keeping fingers crossed! Sounds like it could be a nice change for you both.

soxmom 04-07-2009 07:56 AM

Cathy...that sounds wonderful. I hope everything works out just the way
it should!!!!

Oh, Brain! That would be so excellent for you! Never fear for visitors, once you live in a vacation destination, friends & family come out of the woodwork. It happened to me when I lived in a summer tourist town here.

Methinks your doggies will wig out a tad more from the alligators!

Kitty 04-07-2009 09:22 AM

I hope everything works out in your favor, Brain. The climate change will take some getting used to but somehow I think you can handle it!! :p

Please keep us posted on your hubby's success. If it's meant to be it will happen. I firmly believe that.

How soon will the "visitor calendar" be ready so I can book my weekend?? :p :D

ewizabeth 04-07-2009 09:25 AM

I believe that too, that it'll happen if it's meant to.

I'll let ya know when we're settled in, but you may end up sharing the guest room with FFM and/or Momma once word of fishing gets out.

:p

Sending positives thoughts, vibes and a prayer for a positive outcome in the job search/interviews for your DH. We just went through that 6 months ago... thankfully we didn't have to relocate. Although we may after the email Sec. Gates sent out yesterday!

Cathy - where ya looking? If it's Tampa/St. Pete area - I'll trade you some Shaner's shrimp Kabobs for Tony Packo's Pickles!!! We got a condo on Treasure Island.

The new power plant in Lakeland's gotta be a labor draw...

The shipyards near Jasksonville might be a draw.

Do tell, my Toledo buddy!!!

He's looking at 2 jobs, one in Satsuma one in Jacksonville - they're both for CSX brige tenders. He even went down to the Satsuma bridge to see how high it is, and how comfortable he'd feel tending it.

He called and said that would be a total dream job, sounded like a kid at Christmas. The guy who works there (yep, he met him and shot the breeze for a while) says he almost missed Dancing with the Stars the other night, cuz he had a big ol' bass on his pole (on the job) lol. And if the tide is right, he might drag up as much as 150 shrip per throw.

:)

The view from the bridge is stunning over the St John - the same manta ray swims by nightly, all the big local birds... ahhhh!

And here I sit, waking up to snow and highs of 40.

:o

He found *the house* I want and took some pix of it. I can so hear my flip flops on that deck. I can already taste an ice cold Guinness... oh wait, that's cuz i'm drinking one!

He also says St Augustine promises the best ghost tours in FL and is bringing home a paper from the fort for me. I wanna check that out.

Only 7 people total applied for the Satsuma job, and he'll find out tomorrow how many there will be for the Jacksonville job. Being from OH may play against him, but the same guy is doing the next interview. So I told him to play up that he's planning on paying his own relocation, the kids are grown and we have the cash stashed to do it.
*keeping fingers crossed*

That's great news, Brain. I hope everything falls into place for you. I've been to Jacksonville many times and the St. John's river is beautiful. We went on a pontoon boat and stopped at a little restaurant on the water.

Keep us posted on the outcome!! :)

SallyC 04-08-2009 01:33 PM

I hope he gets the job he wants and you are able to move to the best place for you both..

Kitty 04-11-2009 11:53 AM

Hey Cathy.....I'm sure you already know this but I just wanted to remind you that all of your DH's expenses while he's looking for a job are tax deductible. Even if you've already filed you can do an amended return (you can actually do an amended return up to 3 years after you file). It might help you to get a bigger refund. :)
