Supplements for "bad mood" ?
Hey !!!
Im wondering.... I have been suffering bad mood.... you know, like when everything irritates you.... I would like to try a supplement before asking my doc for meds... Im taking vit A, B, D, E and Omegas 3, 6 already.... Does anyone know about something helping stabilizing mood ?? Thanks in advance !!!! :D |
The best one for me...not that I admit to PMS...but my husband admits I have it...is SAMe.
Helps mood, my joints and is an awesome liver cleanse. Not cheap. I have gone off it different times and regreted it. |
Thank you Curious !
Could I ask, what is SAMe ??? I google it and got "weird" things, nothing to do with supplements.... :Scratch-Head: |
We have many posts and threads about it. Let me see what I can find.

MrsD took it for a long time. I'm sure she will post when she next gets online.
Can you tell I REALLY like this stuff? :D |

 Thanks ! |
SAMe is good for some things, and not for others.
It has been my experience that younger patients do not do well with it, or get irritable with it. SAMe is a substance that your body normally makes. With age, it tends to get low and supplementing it helps. It will enhance synthesis of several neurotransmitters in the brain. Using B12, B6, folate, can accomplish the same things if only minor loss of SAMe is an issue. These 3 vitamins convert homocysteine to SAMe in the body. As Curious has found out, SAMe is great for arthritis and certain pain conditions. That is why I took it for so long. (I am now trying a special Curcumin to see if I can get by with that for inflammation now). When I stopped the SAMe it appeared that I was okay for a while, but now my back is starting to flare, so it looks like I will be returning to it.(it has been about 3 months off it) As far as your question, Blue, well, being in a bad mood is a rather vague description. Are you anxious? Obsessive? Depressed? Does this happen with your periods? Can you be more specific? |

With bad mood I mean, feeling mad and angry without a reason. Like, Im at the computer doing nothing important and my mom arrives to my room and I feel angry... I had to ask her to leave.... Or... seeing a person and feeling just mad at that... Like feeling I hate everybody.... Not with my periods.... just, whenever.... <------ Me |
It is really hard to separate out real anger, issues, from physical illness.
Some people get irritable when they are in pain. (I do). Or some people are irritable when tired... just up in the morning or not getting enough sleep. Drinking too much caffeinated beverages can make one irritable. Young people can be irritated by their parents to the extreme. Some parents don't realize they are being intrusive, and therefore that adds to the problem. And vice versa can occur too.. leading to alot of tension. Opening lines of communication can often fix alot of tension here. My son had alot of ADHD tension, and I found myself spending alot of time working that out with him, just being there for him, and listening, worked wonders for him. I hesitate to recommend any supplements when there may be other solutions to the problem. Supplements are for when you are deficient, or physically ill in some way, causing a depletion. They are not drugs...or to change feelings or fix conflicts. |
Oh....

This is what my doc says helps primarily with depression:
Fish Oil B50 Tablet D3 (gel type capsules) He also highly recommends... eating healthy (avoiding sugar, alcohol and caffeine) and getting in exercise about 4 days a week. Have you seen your doctor recently? Please do not hesitate to get a check up. You might ask about these things. Some really good health food stores have trained personnel. I am fortunate that my doc has an interest in supplementation. This doesn't mean that I do not also take traditional medications. BTW...things like having your thyroid out of whack can cause mood problems...so don't ever hesitate to get a check up. Please find a physician that you trust. I'm taking classes. When I have a test and drink coffee...sometimes I get anxious. I can relate to what Mrs. D has said. We forget that this is a "drug." We forget that foods are drugs. The book Food and Mood is really good. Individual and/or family therapy can be a real blessing as well. Often times it takes a combination of things to provide the best results. Again, you might want to start off with an appointment with your family physician. Wishing you well. |
Hi I can relate to you a lot and why I have went back to a psychiatrist. I have a history of depression/anxiety but since my physical health and pain has gotten so bad I have went back to go back on mental meds. I am not sure if you would consider that and or a therapist but that may help. I have been having outburst of anger with my family and my psych told me the meds I am on should help. I do feel from a long history of mental battles that it takes a combo of self help tools and meds to work. As for a supplement I do remember a psych telling me to increase my omegas and that may help.
I hear some of your triggers to what angers you and is there ways you can help to calm yourself down. Like telling your mom you need space or healthy outlets like listening to music/relaxation tapes/hobby? |
I seem to recall you take thyroid medication?
If this dose is too high for you, say something has changed for you and you don't need it as much, that could make you irritable too. Take care... |
