Tattos anyone !?

Hey !!!

I really want to have a tatto :D I want it in my arm... and maybe, a second one in my wrist...

Question: Do you have any ? Where ??? Was it very painful ????

My main concern now is pain ! hehe

Thanks for sharing !!! :)

Kitt 04-13-2009 06:45 PM

Don't have any. I've never wanted one. Sorry I can't help.

Curious 04-13-2009 06:51 PM

Blue, have you thought about getting a temp tattoo first?

They can last up to a month and it will give you a chance to see if you can live with the design and the placement.

You might even decide to just do the temp ones and keep changing them.

These are the airbrush ones, not the sticker type.

BlueMajo 04-13-2009 06:54 PM

Hum.... not sure if they exist in my country... :o But I will ask for temp ones first :)

AZjanie 04-14-2009 01:56 PM

I have tattooed eyebrows because I plucked them ALL out when I was 15 years old and so much smarter than any one else!!

I had it done four years ago and the pain was horrible!! The tech said she would use "numbing lotion" so I figured it wouldn't hurt.

What she failed to mention was she needed to scrape the surface first!! YIKES!!

I don't see how anyone could deal with the pain of a larger area tattoo since just two eyebrows nearly did me in!

Kitty 04-14-2009 02:23 PM

I don't have any but my DH had one on each of his upper arms. I went with him when he got one of them....they were pretty large and took quite a bit of time. He actually fell asleep during the procedure! Seriously.....even the tattoo artist said he'd never seen anyone do that before! He had a high tolerance for pain, apparently.

I'm too chicken. I hate needles!! :o

Earl 04-14-2009 06:24 PM

I have three, all can be covered by clothing. (wont' tell you where they are)

It doesn't hurt unless you do it someplace where there isn't much between the skin and the bone (like wrists and backbone or ankle) I can best describe it as if you have a really bad sunburn and someone slaps you on it over and over again.

If I had it to do all ever again, I would not do it. I started disliking them soon after getting them, unless you want reminders of idiot times, lol.

my smallest is about one inch square, the biggest is about 7 inches around.

DM 04-16-2009 10:00 AM

Hey Blue!! AYUP, I have a few, but I really love mine and feel they are very tasteful. I have a small hummingbird & flower on one foot and on the other, I have a beautiful memorial tat in honor of my Mother. I look at it and smile, as I think of her then. Also, last yr I got a one on my lower back w/my DH's, DD's, DS's & my first intial in it.

The feet felt like little bee stings, as I don't have much padding on the top of them, but took Ibuprofen before the procedure. The lower back hurt like heck and even the Bloody Mary that my friend had me drink didn't help, but I wouldn't change having it done.

I should mention that I have a low pain tolerance, so not everyone feels as much pain. Noone sees the lower back one, but I love it b/c I know it's there and as for the feet; I can show them or keep them under cover. I also will recommend that you have it done at a very reputable place and make sure everything they use is sealed, clean and that the whole place is clean from the entry door to the actual artist's chair.

Good luck if you decide to take the plunge and let us know what you do.

Tattoos are forever. Are you thinking a wedding dress that hides everything? Does it matter to you? Worked in a psychiatric facility and one old lady got naked all the time. Tattoos on an old sagging body were not pretty!!!!! I think they moved.(Down with every thing else.)

Oh noooooo Kick!!!! That means in a few yrs, my lower back will be behind my knees!!! Well, at least my foot tat can't go anywhere. :D

MooseasaurusRex 04-16-2009 10:23 AM

I have two. One on each arm done when I was stationed in England and they are A LOT cheaper overseas.

And yes, tats last forever. Especially the bad ones. :o Want to get one covered with a tribute to my sons.

I can tell you the needle felt like bee stings and the closer to the bone, the more it hurts.

AZjanie 04-16-2009 12:09 PM

Keep in mind Ladies the pretty butterfly on your boob will turn into an ugly BAT!!

megveg 04-16-2009 12:25 PM

DM- just keep your clothes on!!!

I don't want a tattoo, thank goodness, I don't like pain unless it gets rid of this MS. I used to do temporary tattoos (I was younger and in shape) but we moved, don't shop like I used to.
Blue Majo - if you have to, ask a US person to buy and mail you some temporary ones, buy at Claire's or the like (Claire's is accessory place in most malls on east coast)

april1848 04-16-2009 05:14 PM

I love tattoos so much that I married my tattoo artist (that wasn't the only reason). I have my whole back done and my right thigh. One of my first jobs was as a "lobbygirl". I hung out in the lobby, answered questions, and tried to sell tattoos.

Tattoos are fun and addictive, but you really have to think about what you're getting and where. My tattoos are hidden so I can work as a professional without any judgement. My husband frequently refuses to tattoo younger people who want things on their wrists, necks, forearms, etc. so they won't be limited in future jobs.

The pain isn't so bad. It's like a continual bee sting. I've seen thousands of people get tattooed, and the funny thing is that the women take it better. I guess after years of menstruation and child bearing, a tattoo is nothing. I've seen big biker guys cry, while little women were perfectly at ease. I have a lot of funny memories from that job that I'll never forget.

I say that if you've thought it all out, go for it. The pain is not bad at all. I chose tattoos with personal meaning and they're original, so there's no need to worry that they'll be copied, unless someone sees them in magazines. Just be sure to go to a pro with a super clean shop.

april1848 04-16-2009 05:20 PM

I wanted to add that if you have any questions about tattoos, feel free to pm me. If I can't answer it, my husband can. He's won awards in four different countries now, and he's quite the artist. :)

Thanks for sharing your story !!! that's awesome.
I will pm you because I have a question regarding the colours I would want in my tattoo.... :o

Curious 04-18-2009 10:40 AM

If you find the places that use airbrush...just bring in the design.

Most of the malls here have temp tattoo places.

kicker 04-18-2009 10:53 AM

If you have a large Indian population) (but you live in Mexico right?) at festivals a henna (no real color) choices, Henna browns, this is temp, usually for Indian weddings I think, but I'm Irish descent) But Curious is probably right about airbrush. I seem to vaguely reme??mber my kids getting them at an amusement park. Doesn't Jimmy Buffet sing about getting a tattoo of a Mexican cutie while wasting away again in Marguritaville"?? Is that Mexico with tequila?

Good luck!!!

Curious 04-18-2009 10:57 AM

You reminded me of the henna ones kicker, those are sooo cool.

Curious 04-18-2009 11:00 AM

Hey ! I will search for something like that in my pathetic country !
Thanks a lot for the info.

april1848 04-19-2009 06:33 PM

Hi BlueMajo. The henna tattoos that people mentioned are incredibley beautiful, and since they are temporary, it'll give you a sense of how much you really want one (although I sense that they do).

My first tattoo, on my thigh, barely hurt at all, because there's fat there. I did take a valium the first time (that tattoo took 13 hours in all) but after that I didn't need it. However, when I had my back done, that hurt like heck, especially along the spine and close to my abdomen--my tattoo wraps around a bit. In general, places with thin skin, like wrists and ankles, will hurt more. The less painful places are the fatty ones, away from bone.

Let me know if you have any questions! And I'm sure you can handle the pain. It hurts at first, but after awhile, it's nothing. Happy tattooing!

I had gotten one around my ankle, I call it my mother 's tat and the funny thing is that it didn't hurt one bit, I got it on the opposite side of where I have RSD, figuring that would be a safe bet and sure enough it was, right now I want to get another with the RSD awareness ribbon.
Good Luck,
p.s.
just make sure it will be something that you will be able to live with:winky:

AZjanie 05-09-2010 04:51 PM

I had eyebrows done years ago see post #5.

I don't do anything twice which involves pain which is why my son is an only child. ;)

Tattoos and having babies...both hurt so no more!!

kicker,
It's a real beauty, a Mexican cutey

My 24 yr old son has two tatoos. One on his shoulder/back and one on his upper arm. The one on his sholder is a simply lizard that to me looks sorta cartoonish. The one on his arm is beautiful. He was a eagle boy scout (no simple trick. Few can make it that far) so you know what it must be -- an eagle head, with "BSA" on it. It is more realistic than the other.

I just saw a photo of some guy's tatoo on a TV show. A small post with a flag 'coming out' of his bellybotton & the flag has "18" on it. Next to it is a guy golfing --------------------- must be his "18th hole" tattoo. lol
