Gimp Stimulus package

I know this might belong in the social security forum, but I never go there so here it is.

Seems "most" people who receive social security disability will receive an additional check in May for $250.00.

How about that, we get our own little gimp stimulus package. Not sure how I will spend my wealth but I like it.

Could be good for a touchy subject in my hot, little hands! ;)

SandyC 04-14-2009 03:49 PM

Erin524 04-14-2009 05:13 PM

Do you have to pay taxes on it at the end of the year?

No. So they say. :p

PolarExpress 04-14-2009 05:36 PM

Since it's also being sent to retired folks and the elderly, who don't have to pay taxes period, than I don't think anyone would have to pay..
By the way, Sandy, may I say you have the Best Avatar Ever?:winky:

Kitt 04-14-2009 06:26 PM

I think you will have to pay taxes on it. Time will tell.

SallyC 04-14-2009 06:28 PM

Cool Beans, Earl...I didn't know that. :)

doydie 04-14-2009 11:12 PM

Kind of off the subject a bit but amybe not. I remember back when I was working. When you finalyy reached 25 years you got a gift and cash. For 25 years you got $250, 30 years you got $300, you get the opicture. My husband and I both work at the same place and started the same day. That's how me met. So we both got that nice check. He is a very practical guy. If you get an extra amount of money, you just pout it in the bank and it goes to bills. But I said my $250 was MINE! If I wanted to get a round trip flight to Chicago, get off the plane walk around the airport and get back on and fly home then that's what I would do with mine. I did buy an excersize bike so I could hang my clothes on it and some other things. Unfortunatley I quit a few months shy of my 30 year anniversary. He put his $300 in the bank. Boring. He has no imagination. But this $250 again will be mine. I think I am going to put it toward having a nice wooden play set put up in our backyard for when the grandkids come.

Here in australia every taxpayer who earned under 100k last year got/gets a $900 tax free 'stimulus' payout (to put back into our dodgy economy). I got mine today. spent it already though... :)

Dejibo 04-16-2009 07:16 AM

Is this extra funds for EVERY state of just AZ?

SandyC 04-16-2009 09:43 AM

It's for every state Dej.

For those who are wondering if they will get a check, here is the site for FAQ's:

SS Economic Recovery Check FAQ

doydie 04-16-2009 11:08 PM

On that website I never saw it specifically say SSD. It said SS and SSI. Does SS automatically mean SSD?

Yep, I thought the same thing. I am going to assume SSDI is a part of SS since it is a benefit from SS.

We'll just wait and see. We should all know by the end of May.

Here is another explanantion that does say those on SSDI will get the $250. I don't know how reliable the site is though. If it is correct, those who started recieving SSDI after January 2009 will not be eligible. If you recieved benefits before that you should get a check. Several questions being asked are:

Who is eligible for the $250?
Anyone who was receiving SSDI benefits anytime during the three-month time period of Nov. 1, 2008, through Jan. 31, 2009 will receive a bonus check. In addition, beneficiaries in the Social Security retirement, SSI, railroad retirement and veterans benefits programs are eligible.

What if I got my SSDI in February 2009?
Unfortunately, you will not receive the one-time $250 payment because your entitlement date was after Jan. 31, 2009.

Will this payment affect my taxes?
No, the one-time $250 payment will not be counted toward gross income for your federal income tax.

I'm moving to OZ. LOL That's pretty cool.

I got my letter in the mail yesterday about receiving the $250. We'll see if it really happens or not.

We don't have much water, our politicians are a bit thick, but our health care is fair and good and we like to enjoy the outdoors.
we had a roo in the garden a while ago but he got hit by a car (out on the road, not in the garden) :)
