Britians Got Talent...So Amazing!!! Gotta see this!

SandyC 04-15-2009 03:16 PM

I saw this and I have to say she has a beautiful voice. But I am also very upset with the media calling her ugly duckling, plain Jane, spinster, etc. Her looks have nothing to do with her talent. Her personal life has nothing to do with her talent. Is it really that shocking that someone who looks like Susan can sing? Is it really that shocking that someone who has never married can sing so well? I'd like to ask all the media those questions.

It's actually quite embarrassing to me how they are treating this whole story. Everyone seems shocked and I can't figure out why? It really just shows how superficial the world is to those who are not what is considered "pretty."

I agree... I think this is a bit staged....maybe she didn't know what was coming, but I think the judges knew. The audience did not however, IMO.

It does say, that certain types of people are "not allowed"....
not allowed to be smart, not allowed to be brilliant and talented.

The media panders to the lowest common denominator as a rule. But, she appears to be a good sport about it all for now.
What her future holds? That is something else.

But I bet she is stunning in church!

It certainly brought tears to my eyes! I wish her the best!
(and her kitties too)

Aarcyn 04-15-2009 04:01 PM

I saw this video on a new site. Amazing!

There was something about her already being contacted by a company owned by Simon Cowell.

But that is strange because their talent show has only because it has just started and she is a contestant?

I agree. You don't have to look like a supermodel in order to have talent. Personally, I don't think she looked that bad. I mean, yes, she could use some eyebrow wax but the media is making way too much out of the way she looks. I hope it works in her favor and she gets lots of performance offers.

Koala77 04-15-2009 04:55 PM

I saw this on TV yesterday too. She has the most beautiful voice, but I was also horrified at what the commentators were saying about her.....like never even been kissed.

Australia's Got Talent had their grand final last night and there was a 15 year old lad who's voice just blew me away! We're being made to wait a week for the voting results, but I sure hope he wins.

tamiloo 04-15-2009 06:22 PM

I was amazed that she should up to all that were there and sang to them. If I would have been her I would have ran from the stage crying!! When she was done and started to walk off stage she felt complete in singing and really forgot she was being judged. She stood up to all of them...very brave, very amazing....

AZjanie 04-15-2009 06:34 PM

I received this link in five e-mails from friends today who live in different states. This woman is amazing and everyone is talking about her.

WOW; What talent! :D

weegot5kiz 04-15-2009 11:10 PM

i saw her on the web a day or two ago, omg what a beautiful voice, one of the best voices I have heard in a long time, I do not watch this show with this simon person, but i did enjoy watching simon sit back and his jaw dropped, she did a real good job, hope what ever the show is she wins it all, was really wonderful

mrsD 04-16-2009 02:15 PM

Miss Boyle was interviewed on GMA today....

The video is on Yahoo news (no address unfortunately).

She was cute, I thought. The Scottish accent was a bit hard to
follow, but gave her a bit of an folksy air.

She did mention being bullied in school. And that upset me..
I just hate school and adult bullies!

Kitty 04-16-2009 03:05 PM

I saw her interview and thought she did a great job. Looked like she had dyed her hair and had it fixed.....she looked good. Maybe this is what the entertainment industry needs. Someone who looks "normal" who also has talent!

Blessings2You 04-16-2009 04:00 PM

Actually, I thought that's exactly how she looks: normal. When I read all the media junk about "ugly duckling" and "don't judge a book by its cover", I want to go hide under my bed and never come out.

My Grandma and Mom always said "Pretty is as pretty does", and by that standard there are some really ugly celebrities out there. And some that don't make People magazine's top ten lists who are beautiful.

Aarcyn 04-16-2009 04:01 PM

I got the feeling that she knew she did not have "the looks," but she also knew she had a great voice.

That first round is full of silliness. Plenty of people get up there just to have their moment in the spotlight. I cannot imagine how it would be to have to sit through so many acts for round #2. It is impossible to know what is coming. At least that is what I am lead to believe when I watch.

The astonishment on the 3 judges' faces was a delight.

Her voice was even more of a delight.

Grizabella 04-16-2009 09:36 PM

She's on an Anderson Cooper 360 interview tonight. I haven't read everyone's posts yet so maybe someone else already posted about it, but maybe someone will be able to catch this.

Kitt 04-17-2009 09:31 AM

She is just plain wonderful:) And I hope they don't change her looks that much. She is normal and with a great, wonderful voice to boot:Heart:

AfterMyNap 04-17-2009 10:13 AM

She is a personal hero to me. As a person who has spent a lifetime being forced to prove myself and skills beyond my appearance, it was a liberating moment to see the pompous judgement of others put in its place.

Blessings2You 04-17-2009 01:33 PM

I saw a headline putting forth the question, "Should she get a makeover?" To me, the obvious answer is "If she wants one."

AfterMyNap 04-22-2009 07:25 AM

There is a nice, little tidbit in today's PsychCentral newsletter about Susan Boyle:

They were talking to her this morning on GMA. Everyone's after her to have a makeover. WHY??? So she can look like someone else wants her to look? I hope she doesn't change a thing. She's just fine the way she is. If she decides that she wants to make some changes then that's another thing.

She is who she is......the person God made her. If a record producer wants her voice bad enough they'll take her as she is. I personally feel that she reaches more people than your typical air brushed, plastic super stars of Hollywood.

MooseasaurusRex 04-22-2009 09:16 AM

I read somewhere years ago that our eyes create 90% of our sensory intake.

We can recognize shape, color, form and estimate things like weight, density, distance, and the speed of an object with just our eyes.

In many ways they are the basis for most of our prejudices.

If nothing else, this woman proved we need to listen more.

I am the MonSter that MS fears.

DM 04-22-2009 09:19 AM

She is so sweet and her voice is like butter.

Vowel Lady 04-22-2009 10:03 AM

Oops...just tried to post about her...asking to have it deleted!
I think she is amazing!

I have heard all sorts of comments about this video.
Some say it is surprising.
Some say it brings hope.
Some say this woman is unusual...some imply things.
Some say she is a natural talent.
All say her voice is simply lovely.
Wow!

For those who haven't seen it yet, or wish to see it again...

The only things that could be changed without going overboard (such as with plastic surgery), would be hair and clothes. If you want to say something was wrong, it was her hair looked messed up & she wasn't wearing a 'beautiful gown'..... we could all fix our own hair & change our clothes by ourselves but would that really change us? She could do that herself if she wanted. She doesn't need others.

P.S. They, on ABC, kinda showed what she would look like with bobbed hair & I thought it was cute. But that's me.

Kitt 04-22-2009 04:20 PM

She didn't have a beautiful gown on but I thought her dress and heels were very nice. And if she wants to leave her hair and such that way, it's fine with me. She is amazing:)

kicker 04-22-2009 07:01 PM

DD is 17, in High School (you remember what that's like!!!), and really, no really, has such a pretty face - I think it's her eyes sparkling with intelligence. She is 5'7" and is overweight. Although only in 11th, she got asked to the prom. I know the size of her Prom dress made her very sad. Today in class they discussed prejudices based on how people appear. Good for my boy and giirl whose HS judges much on looks. Most of the real world is NOT Barbie dolls. We're getting better, but not there yet.

lor 04-23-2009 03:07 PM

Kitt, I went back & looked & her hair doesn't look messy. I guess I saw another video & her hair looked like she just got out of bed. It doesn't look bad.

Koala77 04-23-2009 07:21 PM

I love her voice too. :)

I hope you don't mind me briefly hijacking this thread, but as this is along similar lines I wanted to share the following with you all.

Mark Vincent, the 15 year old lad who I liked in the Australia's Got Talent show, ended up winning the competition for this year .

In case anyone is interested, here's a link to one of his performances :

I love your "Lest We Forget":) Had to say that.

Twinkletoes 04-24-2009 07:56 PM

I heard today that Donny Osmond (her idol) is going to record a song with Susan Boyle.

He said he'd "kill" for the opportunity!

Thank you Kitt.

Today is ANZAC Day here in Australia, which is the day we remember the servicemen who've given their lives for our country.

I think the USA has Soldier's Day, or Rembrance Day where you do the same thing.

FYI : ANZAC stands for Australian And New Zealand Army Corps.

MooseasaurusRex 04-24-2009 10:53 PM

It's 'Memorial Day' here in the states, beautiful. I think it's in September.

He said, blushing because he's an American vet and not sure. :o

Now back to our regularly scheduled, "There's a lot more of these shows than I thought" thread.

lor 04-26-2009 09:24 AM

(Memorial Day is the last monday in May. This year it is May 26.) Now I guess we should get back to "Britains Got Talent" :)

Buffheart 04-28-2009 09:03 PM

Does anybody have a clip of the 10 year old girl who sang opera (or something like that) and did ballet? I saw a clip of her and a young boy, both from Britain's Got Talent, on GMA (Good Morning America) a few days ago.

Nevermind, I found her. Her name is Hollie Steele.

Darlene 04-29-2009 12:54 AM

I just now saw her, she has a wonderful voice. Thanks for sharing.

There have been lots of articles and photos of Susan Boyle and what she's doing as far as a makeover. She's dyed her hair, bought some new clothes, started wearing a little makeup. That's all well and good....as long as she is the one instigating the changes. I can understand wanting to look your best in front of millions of people....that's totally reasonable. I just hope the pressure from the media and others hasn't changed her. She was approachable and humble and that was what made her unique and special...IMHO.
