I haven't heard anything since this mornings email...she fell down the stairs and was unconscience (sp?) ..fractured her pelvis and shattered her elbow....they were all with her all night in the hospital...she's had terrible pain...they plan to operate today on her elbow. :( I know she appreciates the prayers. :grouphug: |
Oh, Doody.....this is terrible! Of course I'll keep her in my prayers. I hope she makes a complete recovery. It's so hard to watch our loved ones in pain.

Oh, thank you, you're all so wonderful.
I'm tired, I just got home from the hospital. Mom fell down some stairs yesterday at 3:15 pm. (It hasn't even been 2 years since she fell down her steps at home and crushed her heel and broke her ankle.) :( She hit left side of her head and has a concussion. She lost more blood than they would like but is doing okay in that department. Keeping an eye on that. It knocked her unconscious. Ambulance brought her back to this town (they were visitng friends in another town). Edited to add I forgot to say....it split her head open. They had to stapled that. There's a large hematoma that has kinda crept down from the intial place of impact down in front o her ear. It's nasty. She may have also broken her wrist. They are going to xray that tomorrow as it wasn't a source of concern in the ER. Her elbow demolition was obvious. She fractured her pelvis and demolished her elbow. I won't describe it, too horrifying. She finally went into surgery at 4:15 this afternoon and it took almost 2 hours to repair it. She is so scared and confused and has no idea what's going on but she has been really doped up. Problem is, the strong drugs, fentanly, didn't get rid of the pain during the night and it was just god awful. Finally this morning her doc showed up and started giving her Ativan and that finally calmed her down so she could sleep. When she leaves the hospital depends on when she can move around. She hasn't been able to so far. They have had to use a slider to get her off the bed each time she's been moved because she's in too much pain all over and hard to move her bottom end because of the fractured pelvis. At least she had color this morning. Last night I didn't think she was goning to make it. Poor dad, well...he's very tired. He's 86 and she'll be 83 next month. Daughter stayed with me last night, tonight and will the rest of the weekend. Bless her heart. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love you. (I hope it won't offend if I just copy this to sanctuary for all.) :grouphug: |
Sending you thoughts and prayers and hugs.
|
I'm so sorry, Doody.
They're awful injuries for an older person to sustain. :( Good she has a little colour back today... that's a good start. She's in my thoughts, believe me. You are as well. (((doody and mum and dad))) |
Dear Doody...... sending my heartfelt thoughts to you and your mom. I pray her pain can be managed properly and she has a complete recovery.
Hugs to you ~'.'~ Bryanna |
Just checking in before we leave town. I am glad she is making some progress - however slow. I pray that her pain will be manageable and that she makes a full and quick recovery.
I know this has to be so difficult for you and your dad. Take care of each other (((((Doody)))) |
We were in the hot tub last night when you called dear doody...sorry I missed it but glad you were not alone. (((doody))) (((Cara))) I can hardly stand it when I think of how much pain your mom is in...:grouphug:
|
Sending love to you and your family. I know how hard it is to be the one responsible for making sure your parents get the right treatment and care.
I hope everything goes as smoothly as possible.:grouphug: |
Thank you.
Last night she finally got some sleep! And dad too! And me too! Today she is like a different person. She isn't as doped up on the fentanyl as she was. She was scaring us as she seemed so delirious until this morning. They bathed her today and got the rest of the blood off her. They tried to get her up to walk but it was very painful. She did get a few steps in and they will do that again tomorrow. Her elbow took a heck of a lot repair! My daughter is on her way with little g-doody to visit her. Daughter stayed with me last night and gdoody called this morning. First thing he said was, "Is grammy still sick? Is she home? Can I go see her?" LOL so he gets to go see her shortly. That will boost her spirits a lot! I have no clue how long she'll be there. I guess a lot depends on how ambulatory she is. With the fractured pelvis I'm just not so sure. Lot of family and friends been visiting her and my closest cousins said they will make themselves available to help them and help me help them. Dad can't see for diddly so he doesn't normally drive, mom always does. Think that means there will be a lot of taking them places they need to go. Thank you and I love you all. :grouphug: |
Sleep
I'm glad she finally got some sleep. That alone can do heaps of good. I've always heard that a fractured pelvis is very painful. Hope they use a walker when they get her up.
|
Back home again. It's been a rough day for her. Too much painful activity. When I left they were giving her blood. The doctor said she's lost too much so, anyway.
It's kind of a wait and see right now. I asked the doc about home health care for them and geesh, what kinda shape you gotta be in to get any here!? Grr. But then I read last week,...well, Iowa isn't alone. But Iowa is ranked right up there with other states with crappy social services and available help. Granddoody is there with her right now. Boy, that lit up her face! He saw her when they walked in the room and shrieked "GRAMMY!" They managed a hug and some kissy face and he gave her a cute card. Dad told me to get my butt home and take the evening off, soooo I am. Daughter and SIL and gdoody are spending the night here. Love you guys. :grouphug: |
Good for your sweet Dad looking out for our Doody. :grouphug: Hope you get some sleep tonight! The rockers came and we almost got a divorce over trying to assemble them....lots of blue air. :D But I love the way they look.
|
Your poor mom and poor you. This sounds so scary. I'm glad she was able to get some sleep and I hope you were too. :grouphug:
|
This is like a roller coaster with mom. She had a really rough night last night with pain. A few other things going on and I swear nobody there knows how to find a vein.
Late this afternoon they took her to get another scan to check and see if she might have a blood clot in her lungs. Her oxygen level is really low. But I wonder if it is because she's been so doped up and that can cause poor breathing, I think. We don't know the results, but I think if there were a clot we would know by now. They don't expect her to come home for another few days so we'll see. Thank you for caring. :grouphug: |
(((BJ))) wow, it's so nice to see you. I think about you often and send lots of prayers and positive thoughts your way. I miss hearing about Cooper too.
|
Just wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you Doody!!!
Sending prayers for MamaDoody and the whole Doody Clan...:smileypray::smileypray::smileypray:  Abbie |
Doody,
It's 7.30pm here, Monday night. I was just sitting watching something on the tv. I couldn't concentrate and kept thinking about you and your Mum, so I wanted to just come online briefly to send you my continuing best wishes and love and hope that your Mum continues to improve today. p.s. if she's lost a lot of blood her oxygen levels and respiration may improve now she's had the transfusion. Also, some pain meds can slow the respiration rate. I'm sure they'd be keeping an eye on that. sending lots of love up and over... ~~~~~~ |
Hi, I just popped in & say this last page....I will be praying for you & your mom!
|
Awww Doody, (((hugs))) for you and mom, and family. Such a difficult thing to be going through. They may not be able to give her enough pain meds to control the pain, partly, because of her age. I am praying that things will start looking up soon. Let us know how the x-rays come out.
|
Hoping for a good report today Doody. :grouphug:
|
Sending an angel to watch over your mother.

Hey Dood! Thought I'd pop back in to catch up on your Mom's progress and I'm so sorry she is still having so much pain. Just want you to know that I'm keeping your Mom, you and your family (Dad too) in my prayers. She's sure been through alot~~ you take care of yourself too!
:hug::hug::hug::hug: |
I just want to sleep and I'm not even my mom.
Things are about the same. She goes for another lunch scan this afternoon, or did I tell you about that? She had a chest xray? the other day and there's some kind of spot there, don't know what. She's going down today for a scan. Was spose to yesterday but she was so exhausted from them trying to get her to walk they didn't do it. They are going to take her off the fentanyl today and start giving her oral medication. I asked her where she hurts the most and she pointed to the area of her pelvis. Not much sleep goin on. Dad finally asked for a do not disturb sign to hang on the door in the afternoons so they can nap. They thank you all for your support. Me too. :grouphug: |
Sending love and well wishes to your dear parents and lots of hugs to you, Doody. I know how hard it is. Hang in there...
