I Can Run!!!

Well, for a minute I could!! :o

I was sitting at my desk which is right beside the windows in the sunroom. The bird feeders are just outside in the yard and I can see them from where I sit.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw the hanging bird feeder start wiggling back and forth and some sort of commotion was going on beside the back porch that I didn't have a good view of. The birds were making a racket, too....fussing and chirping.

I stood up and looked out the window and saw a CAT with a bird pinned on the ground. Had his big 'ole paw right on top of the flapping, fluttering little thing. I ran out the back door and around to the bird feeder area clapping my hands and making all sorts of strange noises trying to scare the cat off. Well, it worked. The cat ran off and the birds all flew somewhere. They'll probably never come back after that show I put on :o. But they all seemed okay and I didn't see any blood on the ground. Just a few feathers.

I just stood there......and finally realized how quickly I had made it out the door. Anybody watching probably wouldn't have called what I did "running" but it's the quickest I've moved in several years! :o Now.....I'm in pain and my legs feel like jello!

I feel better now knowing that if there is an emergency I can still move......albeit awkwardly.

Dejibo 05-09-2009 03:05 PM

Sometimes cats smother of suffocate the birds by standing on them till they stop wiggling. Sounds like you made it just in time.

Woo! no lunch for the kitties today.

Blessings2You 05-09-2009 03:18 PM

Thank God you didn't take a digger! A happy ending all the way around. Whew.

Kitty 05-09-2009 03:21 PM

It makes me so mad when those cats roam all over the neighborhood. Besides being dangerous for them , they stalk the birds who come to eat at the feeders.

My cats sit at the window and growl and hiss at any cat that wanders into our yard. They're real brave behind the protection of the glass......they'd probably hightail it if they were actually face to face outside with one of them! :p

DM 05-09-2009 04:20 PM

Sounds like you had a bit o' the ole adrenalin rush, Kell!

Glad ya didn't take a header in your rush to save the life of the leetle birdie. You are a HERO!!!!

maryec 05-09-2009 04:41 PM

You go girl ! LOL... Glad it all turned out well, hope you didn't hurt yourself !

marion06095 05-09-2009 05:24 PM

I remember when I suddenly was able to run. It was last summer, and someone was breaking into the house next door. I spotted them and called the cops. Then I ran down stairs and out the back door to see what was going on. Afterward, I remarked to my hubby that I had found a cure for MS – adrenalin.

SallyC 05-09-2009 06:37 PM

Hey Kell, terrific for all concerned..:)

I had read of a woman with MS, who went parachuting and could not only walk, but said she was cured, after the jump.. Adrenalin is a powerful thing.

:hug::hug:

How funny. Yes adrenaline works for me too. Went to feed the horses last night and thought Robbie looked awkward up the top paddock. Turns out he had his foot caught in a fence (again). I RAN towards him, calling 'woah' all the way. But by the time I got there, he's ripped clear, taking most of the fence with him. At least he's ok. Just makes me feel worse than ever that he's so bored without his rides he has to find his own entertainment.

karousel 05-09-2009 08:20 PM

Way to go Kitty! Just remember you did it to help the defenseless bird.

Kitty 05-10-2009 05:26 AM

Maybe adrenaline is the cure! I wonder if they could make a pill out of it (no shots, please!).

Judy2 05-13-2009 01:05 AM

SUPERWOMAN!!!! I hate it when stray cats roam around the birdfeeders -- seems like the poor "chippies" are being lured to their death. Thank you for saving one little one!! Maybe you could put a patent on that adrenalin!!! Way to go! :)

Hi Rivi and welcome to NeuroTalk!

I'm including a link to a thread someone else started about Betaseron. Maybe it will help you, too!

http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread85834.html

You might want to introduce yourself on the Newby Thread in the MS Forum......here's the link to that particular thread: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread4543.html

There's a large MS community here and we're all here to help each other along the way. I'm glad you joined!

I use bird feeders as entertainment for my INdoor cats. They sit at the slider door, and chirp, coo, and meow at the birdies, and squirrels that come to feed. They really yelp at the big blue jays. Last week they were running from window to window and yelping, and chirping and kinda going crazy. I went out back to look, and there is a HUGE redtail hawk sitting on the tree limb that holds up the clothes line. he was MASSIVE! My lil cat was sure she could take him. He stayed about a half hour, just resting. When he was done, he flapped those HUGE wings, and off he went. Havent seen him since.

I try to not feed them much in the late spring, summer, and early fall. I want them to go dig up worms, bugs, and do what comes naturally, but my kitties love them so much. Its like TV to them.

Good job Kitty! I also saved not one, but two yesterday! My kitten NEVER bothered with the birds but yesterday morning I hear...Squalking & Screaching...IN MY HOUSE!...so ran out to the living room to see a big Robin flapping around.........I had to get 3 very happy dogs & 3 cats locked out....FUN.....Then closed all doors & lights, Fan also..Then opened the screen door wide. With a little guidence she flew right out!

I still could not believe my little kitty caught her! It was bigger than her!....Two hours later, ANOTHER, but a small finch. She was also unharmed, thank GOD! So now what to do with the Big Lion?? Maybe a bell on her collar? My other two adult cats never bother with the birds! I guess they are busy with all the Gecko's, Snakes, & creepy crawlies!

If anyone has suggestions on how to keep this little kitty from the birds, let me know! I did move the feeder higher up for now & won't put any more seed in until I figure a way to keep them safe!

Hi Rivi! Welcome to NeuroTalk and to the MS forum! So glad you found us! :)

I've been on Betaseron for nearly three years, and my side effects are minimal. I can't say how well it's working, because I was diagnosed with MS in the early 1990's and right now I'm borderline SPMS. There are others on here on Betaseron who have had good results. Why don't you start a new post of your own asking this question. That way, people will be able to spot it easier and you may get more answers.

Hope to see you around here and The Stumble Inn. We can and do have a lot of fun on here. :D

Yes, I do!! And I think I was one of the ones who tried it!! :o

BTW.....I can't hop.

Even when I "ran".....if you can call it that.....my legs felt weird. Like they were made of jello or something. Strange, strange feeling. I knew what I wanted to do.....but my brain and/or legs had different plans.
