Weekend Check in Thread: Friday, June 5, 09 How are you?

Hello, Everyone,

Maybe you would like to drop a report. . . or mention something coming up this weekend.

I need to shower to get the gunk out of my hair --- not sure when I will feel up to it.
(That's my big report for the moment. )

Well today is the last day of school for Jackie and I am dreading the full brunt of Summer...The rain is gonna be a downer though since we need to get to the pool. Jackie's dr appt went well yesterday, he tolerated the last immunization he had to have for 7th grade so all is well. :)

I am still bouncing off the walls over my contest video entry though, probably will until I hear that I won or that I wasn't chosen, we'll just have to see which way it goes. :) Still thinking postive though. ;) THe AC in the car is going sadly, we think we have a small leak since the recharge we did didn't really help much. I don't know, I can live without it but Jackie and Jack need the ac so it's kind of important. :p

Hopefully we'll have a good weekend and good week, it's looking like a lot of rain though, so who knows? :(

today is a stinky rotten day

last night slept with kitchen door unknowingly ajar... and we have these trees outside which perfume at night heavily... which i am allergic too. so i awoke with full blown reaction, stuffy painful nose sinuses, burning eyes throat, and cough. plus my back had got chilled or something. so, achey vertebrae especially cervical area plus cervical & sinus headache combined.

then i got two text messages which reaaaallly set me off regarding my current hopeless social circumstances. i went numb for about 15 mins then "came to" and bawled for about a half hour. so much for beginning the day with a friendly voice (Rush, The Spirit of Radio).

so i started the day with coffee and a plethora of medications in high doses. after crying bout, watched 2 murder she wrote reruns, one of which i had not seen. aunt called right when they were wrapping up so i don't even know the ending. then i started zoning out and went back to bed with a hot water bottle under my back.

i am pre-menstrual right now too and aside from migraines (i don't have one of those! thank goodness) i've noticed other times i've had backaches and stuff i've blamed on getting chilled... has anybody else noticed increase in backache/cervical headaches at that time?

now, i just woke up again. i would need to go pick up a sterile sample beaker for my labs from the pharmacy (just downstairs) if i am to go do my labs tomorrow, but it's raining - by local definition - cats and dogs. this rain is minimal to moderate by what i grew up with, and i don't mind rain normally, but i am still achey and just generally grumpy and don't want to dress or go outside for whatever reason let alone get wet.

i think i will probably have to do dishes after dinner and am already not up for it.

electrode glue gunk out of hair

Mari, not sure what type of glue they use, but maybe on the E forum they have some experience - on gentle ways of getting that gunk out of hair - it is tenacious.

or maybe Donna can help?

Donna, what do you do when Derrick has EEGs???

good luck, Mari. boy, today really is a stinky rotten day. yuck.

i started a thread at the E forum i most often post to asking for tips & tricks on getting that gunk out of one's hair GENTLY. i hope people answer within a helpful time frame. anyway i figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Mari 06-05-2009 12:38 PM

Dear Pam,
I hope that Jackie does well with you this summer.
I'm glad that the dr appt. went well.

Don't ya think the rain could start letting up and go to its summer predictable schedule?

Mari 06-05-2009 12:45 PM

Dear Waves,

What you describe does sound like a rotten sinky day.
That's yucky about the tree stinkiness.

I hate when I get thrown backward by something that could have been prevented /controlled for. That makes me feel worse about myself for some reason.

You don't have to feel almost apologetic about rain. If it is throwing you off your game, it needs to stop raining.
I'm glad that you are going to do labs.
Maybe you'll make it downstairs to get the beaker.

M.

waves 06-05-2009 01:41 PM

well...

it stopped raining.

i broke out and went to the pharmacy, got two beakers and ordered my wellbutrin (i knew they did not have it in stock, but i can't take it till after i have my blood drawn anyway). still, now i'm all set to get labs, be that tomorrow or not. and the wellbutrin will be in on monday. i forgot actifed tho! luckily i have my regular antihistamine, but it does not have decongestant in it which i need sometimes with these darn trees.

i also went by the lab to check the hours. do not relish showing up too early, and having to stand outside with hunger cramps and a beaker full of urine in hand.

i stopped by a bar for a beer after that. just one. i don't know if the walk or the beer or both helped my backache but it improved. not my head/neck though. my head still feels really weird. i even did some stretching earlier, before going out, but with little luck.

oh, Mari... lol, about the rain... emmm, not so much apologetic... more meant as a scoff at the local concept of "raining cats and dogs." i mean - to me, cats and dogs means rain that can bust an umbrella, or drench a person in a 10 second sprint to their car. cause one to pull over when driving rendering windshield wipers totally useless. i believe you are familiar. ;) i spent most of my life in the subtropics. so i get pretty underwhelmed by the reactions to rain here. mind, when i don't want to get wet, any rain counts. i just don't call it cats and dogs, ya know?

my mother is doing the dishes. bless her. i will try to help dry/put away or something. but i feel sorta dizzy ooky. this cervical crap is weird.

Dear WAves,
Sweetie....I am glad that your back might be alittle better after a beer...if I read that right. Your mothers arm must be better if she is washing the dishes.
a good dark beer is good and it always lifts my spirits.
sorry you had a stinking day...
I am getting ready to go to my womens journey thingy workshop.
have a great weekend for who ever follows.

Abbie 06-05-2009 11:12 PM

No plans for the weekend here...

I just plan on resting and adjusting to the medicine changes that the PDoc made on Tuesday.... All I have wanted to do is sleep but it mainly makes me more tired.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!!

:hug:for all!!!

Dear Abbie,
I hope that you adjust to the med changes and that they work for you.
I hope your weekend goes well.

Mari 06-06-2009 04:36 AM

Dear Waves,

Your second post a few hours after the first sounds better --
you have a marvelous ability to recover (I'm not saying fully recover. I mean I guess that you sound closer to not being near a break down that you did in the earlier post and I am grateful to hear that.)

Also, progress had been made with the rain stopping and your checking the lab hours and getting the beaker, and the beer helping the back. . .
I hope that the other maladies abate.

Pamster 06-06-2009 06:06 AM

Its going to rain today darn it! I want to go out with Mother and it's not looking too good....Shoot!

Mari 06-06-2009 08:02 AM

Pam,
Yes, lots of rain maybe.
We thunder and lightening briefly last night.
Maybe the rain will go away quickly and you can still have most of your day.
'Sending sunny day vibes.

Thanks Mari, I am really sweating the repairs to the car, we need a new pair of tires and it's gonna mean hardship for us. I just hate that the leak began AFTER we'd spent the money from the stimulus thing in May...What a PITA. :( I HATE not having a savings...I hate car repairs...and I feel down today because of it. :(

befuddled2 06-06-2009 12:48 PM

I woke up with bad back pain so I won't be doing much today. It feels like a ball of pain in my left butt and it makes my whole lower back and left leg hurt.

barbara

bizi 06-06-2009 09:25 PM

is that sciatica barbara?
ouch!
sounds painful.
we went fishing today.:)
rented a small boat (little bigger than a canoe) and bought crickets and big succulant worms.
I actually caught a fish a blue gill. Jeff caught a baby catfish who was so cute! I will try to post the fish, jeff will that is.
It was nice being on the water and doing something different.
the weather was really nice. 85 not humid, small breeze.
saw egrets, baby alligators, a big hawk that jeff took a picture of and will try to post that as well.... he was in a near by tree preening.
After turning the boat back in we fished off the side of the bank and I feed the minos...that is fun they like worms! We ended up letting all of the crickets go because we weren't catching any fish.
Headed back home it was only an hour away, it was an anniversary day so no fishing liscense required to fish and free entrance to the park.
We said next time we would go and rent kayaks...

barbara i hope you are feeling better by now, at least with the back.

bizi what a great saturday! it sounds like fun. i don't know if i could go fishing. i would feel sorry for the little fellas. i'm glad you let the crickets go, lol.

abbie good luck with the new meds. fingers crossed.

pam hope you got some sun and were able to go out after all. :o I recall times in FL where it would rain and there would be sunshine at the same time, lol. of course that doesn't help not getting wet.

mari i hope you are feeling more together by now and were able to have a relaxing day.

i am mostly better (back/neck/mood) but got my menses this afternoon and soon after had a mild half hour migraine. woohooo! i thought i was out of the woods but noooooooooo! evening i got hit by THE BIG ONE. it lasted all night. pills did very little. i slept on and off through it but at some point got up and had coffee. i think that helped more than the pills. caffeine is a vasoconstrictor and used in some migraine and pain preparations. i think i will probably go see the neuropsychiatrist my pdoc recommended about getting a triptan for my migraines because the dose of ibuprofen i need to treat them is very high now (600+ mg) and causes some problems, not to mention does not always work. that will be a ways off though as i have other medical stuff. sigh. always something.

i don't know what i'm going to do today (Sunday here now). it's well past sun up. maybe try to get a little more sleep for starters.

Mari 06-07-2009 02:15 AM

Dear Pam,
Car repairs stress me out too.
I hope you can get the tires worked out.
It's nice to have good tires when we are going into a rainy season.

Dear Barbara,
I hope your back gets better and I hope the neighborhood settles down a bit so you can have some peace.

Dear Beth,
Yes, post the pics!
Did you get mosquitoes?

Dear Waves,
Whoa. It does sound like a better med plan for the migraines could help.
I hope you got some sleep.

-=-=-=-
I went to bed around 3:00 pm and woke up at 11:00.
The sleep was good.
I'd like to try sleeping closer to the kind of hours everyone else has. I have a 1:00 pm appt with tdoc on Monday and other day time appointments next week. . . . . would prefer to be sleeping the time I need to be able to go to daytime appoints.

We did get to go to the store again, but we're going out with mom today instead of yesterday when it would have been very bad. I don't know what we're going to do about the tires. We need to get two so they match, but I don't know if that will really be possible because we need to EAT this month you know? Being on a tight budget with no room for a $200 car thing means hardship big time. :(

Well I expect we'll have a good day today. Not sure but we may go to the big pool again. :)

bizi 06-07-2009 10:09 AM

dear pammy, I am sorry about your tires....
I hope you have anice time with your mom.

see if I can attach these, of course click on them to enlarge them.
Jeff says that my fish was 5 inches long...I think she was longer than that! The hawk in the second phote was staring at jeff because he had gotten so close. Yikes!

Great pix, Beth!!! :) :D

Thanks for sharing! (and thanks Jeff, for helping with techie part, lol!)

i am struck by a wave of kitten-envy!!! Hattie is soooo adorable.

The hawk pix are so cool... what a riveting look in the second pic! did you know that only predator birds can see with both eyes looking straight ahead? other birds look out of one eye at a time and that's why they seemingly cock their to one side so frequently.

anyway you got a real mugshot there, profile, and face shot of that hawk, lol. :D. My mom loves birds i think i will show it to her. She will no doubt want to look it up in her Peterson guide...

And your fish is beautiful. I'm glad you let them go though... i hope they don't get too injured by the hooks.

And you look pretty good yerself! ;)

can't believe how fast the weekend just flew by.

befuddled2 06-07-2009 11:28 PM

Beth, thank you for the pics. I'd love to go on a diet with you. I don't know if you know it but I am adicted to Hershey kisses. I haven't had any in about a month now. I've lost about 4 lbs. as a result of not having my usual fix of chocolate but the gained back 2 this past week. You don't look like you need to lose any weight though.

barbara

bizi 06-07-2009 11:31 PM

thank you barbara,
I either need to lose a good 10 pounds or buy 14 new pairs of scrubs....
~sigh
beth
I love their extra dark chocolate, the kind that is good for you with flavonoids etc.
and blueberry beer....any food item for that matter. I have no moderation skills at the moment.

Dmom3005 06-08-2009 04:59 PM

Join me I"m already dieting supposedly. Heehee

But I have been gone all weekend to special olympics. New thread
coming about Derrick things.

Mari,
Hope you got the stuff out of your hair.

DiMarie 06-17-2009 05:05 AM

Beth thanks for sharing, there is almost a feeling of contact and connection when the bird is looking at you.

Barbara, maybe we should spend a week eating our cravings out then go on a diet? I am procrastinating feeling nothing helps.
THe doctor saying a lot of it is post meno and heriditry did not lift me.

I guess I will cut out all sweets except fruit and try to commit to the treadmill every day.
I would love to lose 50 lbs but would be thrilled at 30.
di

waves 06-17-2009 06:45 AM

Dear Di

50, or even 30 pounds is not something that can be done overnight. and dieting IS hard - even just using restraint.

simply cutting out sweets except fruit will do fabulously. perhaps with one day a week when you are allowed to have them, if that works for you (some ppl do better if they stay away from the taste altogether or it causes cravings). and if you can do the treadmill 3 times a week, even if not every day, that will really help coz it will keep your body from settling into a lower energy mode. you have a good plan.

but, i recommend you make some short term goals. or milestones. but focus on those and not the 30 or much less the 50 pounds. go for 5 pounds at a time. and remember that losing slowly is more likely to keep it off. more than a pound a week is not a great idea.

i could lose about 20 KILOS... i.e. 44lbs... i'd be happy with 15... ie. 33lbs.

i go for 2 kilos at a time. that's 4.4 lbs. here everything is in kilos... i had to get used to that. :o i am not on a diet but have found i have been doing less compulsive eating. so far though, my weight has not budged in spite of that. :( i don't eat sweets - all i could do in that direction is not put sugar in my coffee (but i like it). i don't eat much bread, so not much to cut there either. :o

i'm trying to eat more raw veggies - as opposed to cooked. more filling. i am also eating separate foods from my parents at times... this is hard. but this will come in handy when they have something fried. but those are the hardest to say no to.

i'm not big on fruit, and fruit juices are not the same as fruit. also heavy to carry home for my folks.

good luck, Di. don't give up hope. sometimes it takes a while for the body to respond and "decide" to use its fat stores. GEEZZ, NOW i suddenly realize why it COULD BE i've felt so tired this week... fewer calories from not compulsive eating.... hmmmmmmm. (btw, that is incidental, and not willpower. but thank goodness!!!!)
