Text messages from Labor and Delivery

My DD Gina is a week overdue with her first pregnancy. She is in the hospital...ahem...Medical Center (whatever happened to hospitals?)... right now. Her little guy should make an appearance some time today!

I just received this text message:

"I love epidurals! I feel sorry for you having to truly labor. It also helped me [to] like Lance again."

"They broke my water at 5:15. I lasted an hour before giving in."

Guess I'd better get a bag packed -- she lives 180 miles away. Must go to work first and get my traffic tickets entered for the county.

I wonder how big he'll be? We tend to have very large babies in this family! Gina was exactly 10 lbs. Small potatoes compared to her brother at 11 lbs. 2 oz. He was a breeze, though, and she was difficult and came out sunny-side up. I'm rambling. Will update later.

Dejibo 07-07-2009 07:52 AM

Wahoo! hes coming, hes coming. Peyton is making his way here.

Twinkletoes 07-07-2009 07:55 AM

Wow, Deji! You remembered his name!

I got the word from Gina that it's "PAyton" because (she explained) they have to "Pay a Ton!"

karousel 07-07-2009 09:24 AM

How exciting!!!! Love the name and the reason behind it.

hollym 07-07-2009 09:28 AM

I will have to check back for updates. I hope she has a short labor.

Hehe, that's not really the reason to spell his name Payton -- Gina was just helping me to remember (cause I keep asking!)

Off to work, then to Labor and Del. Will update when I can.

Kitty 07-07-2009 10:33 AM

How exciting! A new baby! I hope all goes smoothly for her and she's home soon. Epidurals are wonderful! I had one with my second child and would never again attempt to try it without one.

Let us know when he gets here, Grandma!

Taffy 07-07-2009 10:51 AM

How awesome! Payton is almost here or maybe as I type!:D

Twinkletoes 07-07-2009 01:40 PM

"I think he's stuck!"

"Well, they upped the pit drip to near max and I'm not progressing as well as I should. They'll still keep monitoring through, and see how I do.

I think he's stuck!" :p

Kitty 07-07-2009 01:50 PM

Well, I can't blame him for wanting to stay safe and secure where he is......but I'm sure Momma wants him to move out!

Hope the meds work and things get going soon. Keep us updated! :)

Twinkletoes 07-07-2009 02:42 PM

C-Section?

"They are monitoring me really closely now and will decide if I'm going to progress or not and do a c-section. Will know more later, still doing good."

Okay, folks. I'm done with my work and am leaving now to drive the 180 miles to meet this new little guy. I sure hope they don't have to do the c-section.

ali12 07-07-2009 02:47 PM

Yay, your darling grandson is finally coming, Twink - i'm soo happy for you!!:)

I really hope that your daughter wont need a C-Section and that all goes well with the labour.

Please keep us posted on how things go and send our best wishes to your daughter and son-in-law!!

Can't wait to see the pics!:D

FaithS 07-07-2009 03:49 PM

Almost feel like we're there. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Dejibo 07-07-2009 04:21 PM

no oven fresh bun yet? oh yea, its her first child. might as well pull up a chair and wait this one out.

come kiddo! you can do it!

AZjanie 07-07-2009 05:17 PM

Hope all goes well and we are all anxious for this little guy to make his debut!! :D

I would have been overjoyed with a c-section!! Twenty-seven hours of labor and two and a half hours on the table (no epi or drugs of any kind), hemmoraged and transfused...

See why my son is an only child??

When I wanted another baby; we got a puppy!

btw:
My hair stylist just had her first yesterday...a boy after only four hours labor. She named the poor kid Chancellor Dudley Lance Chance! Must have been some good drugs......

braingonebad 07-07-2009 05:35 PM

Deliveries are just like the babies themselves - no two alike.

Maybe if they open candy wrappers, that'll get Payton's attention. Food always gets my boy running.

;)

If it was a little girl, I'd say whisper. They hate not knowing what is going on. Nosey things.

:D

Janie - she couldn't have just shortened that to Kick Me?

Taffy 07-07-2009 06:05 PM

Well? Is the kid here yet? Taking his sweet time...........

Blessings2You 07-07-2009 07:32 PM

Hey, Payton, I have to go to bed pretty soon!

We should send that poor kid a sympathy card!

I always read the birth announcements and just shake my head at some of the wierd names and creative spelling but this poor kid better be big and mean or he is in for a lifetime of getting his butte kicked!! :(

AZjanie 07-07-2009 09:22 PM

Hey Granny; check in when you can! We're waiting......

Lady 07-07-2009 09:36 PM

It's a Full Moon tonight. Most babies are born during a full moon. So where are you Payton? I hope everything is okay in L&D.:)

Twinkletoes 07-08-2009 12:51 AM

He made it!

Payton has arrived! It was a struggle and he is quite bruised, but doing okay.

No C-section necessary, thank goodness. ((((Janie))))

He weighed in at 8 lbs. 2.5 oz. The doc told Gina that next time they would discuss inducing her a week or two before the due date!

He has a very good set of lungs. His poor leetle head is rather cone-shaped for now.

He is so sweet and smells so new! I always wonder if babies can still see angels.

I'd like to thank the NT cheering section. :) It was fun sharing my excitement with you all!

The camera is still at the hospital, so no pics to post yet.

I'm ready for bed. I didn't do any work, but I'm tired just the same. Night all.

Desinie 07-08-2009 01:12 AM

Yay, Welcome to the World little Payton!!!

SO glad to hear that he has finally arrived and that mom didn't have to have a C-Section!

I hope they are both doing well today and can't wait to see the pics when you have them!

Please pass on our Congratulations to your DD and family!

Have fun spoiling him!!

hollym 07-08-2009 09:33 AM

Hooray! That sounds like my labor with my first. After 20 hours, 1-1/2 hours of pushing, and threats of c-section he finally came out after . He was 8 lb 3 oz and he had a cone head for a couple of days. The second one decided to come 2 weeks early on his own and was already 7 lb 14 oz - glad he didn't wait cause he would have been a whopper.

Congrats Twink. I can hardly wait for photos.

soxmom 07-08-2009 09:36 AM

congrats to your family Twink!

Taffy 07-08-2009 09:57 AM

Congratulations Gina, Twink, and Family! That is great news and I am glad all went well.:hug:

Twinkletoes 07-08-2009 08:12 PM

Payton cutened up overnight! He doesn't look so bruised now, and his head is fixing itself into a better shape.

I have the pics on this little bitty memory card, but my computer doesn't seem to want to accept it. Aaaarrrrrghhh!!!! (DD's camera).

Maybe tomorrow we'll post pics if I can transfer them onto a disc. Darnit! :(

Riverwild 07-08-2009 08:19 PM
