Blood in stool

Sorry, kind of an embarassing question.

In another post, I stated that I started taking CellCept. I have been on it for 6 days. I don't physically feel any different from it, but I have noticed that yesterday I started having blood in my stool, it is continuing today.

What should I do? Call the dr., call my neuro who prescribed it, or monitor it for a few more days?

Hi Tbarney,

Please call one of the doctors now, don't wait. If that one makes light of it and says to do a wait and see...call the other one...please. It could be nothing or it could be something very serious! Take care.

Hugs,
Pat

Have you looked online at what side effects that medication has? Call your Dr. and tell him/her right away, blood in stool is not something I would wait out. Please keep us updated. :grouphug:

Blood in stool is listed as a symptom, but what I found online does say to consult a Dr. on some of the sites, but not all.

Hi,

As the others have said contact your Dr.

It could be the medication or it could be something as simple as piles. However we arent professionals so as embarrassing as it is see a dr!

Keep us updated
Rach

The cause of blood in the stool is for the doctor to figure out!!! GO NOW and call your doctor's office. If you have more than a "little" blood, you need to go to the Emergency room. If you have a bleed in your colon, it will be brighter red. If it is from higher up, like the small intestines, it will be very dark.

Do not wait!!! Not to scare you but it can be serious like a perforated bowel or a bleeding disorder or something else just as bad.

Check back AFTER you've been taken care of.

Annie

Yep I'm with everyone else on this, check it out with your doctor, better to be safe than sorry.

Hi Tbarney!

Hey hon!:D Blood in the stool is always very serious. I was told by my neuro that I was to call immediately if I noticed blood in my stool.....

I am not trying to frighten you, but you need to get checked out IMMEDIATELY! Is the stool dark and like coffef grounds or bright red? Dark is NOT the one you want to have......

Hang in there, sweetie!

Call your DR STAT!

Big hugs!
Erin:D

It is BRIGHT red. Again, kind of embarassing, it is only there when I wipe after a BM. I'll see what tomorrow brings and call if I still have it.

Hi Tbarney!

Hey hon! Don't be embarrassed! All the meds we are on is scary. Bright red is mich better than dark brown. It is prolly something trivial, but it is smart to call your dr just in case....

Other than that, how are you? Are you feeling better @ all? Cellcept takes a while to kick in, but once it does, watch out! You are going to feel GREAT! I wish my neuro had nevre taken me off of it to begin with........LOL:D

Let us know how you are doing!

Big hugs!

Please don't be embarrassed because you have to talk to your doctor about this.

Had I been too embarrassed to go to the doctor, I'd either be dead or dying by now because mine turned out to be bowel cancer. :(

Take comfort in knowing that red blood is most commonly due to haemorrhoids! They are mostly on the outside and you might feel a little lump, but they can be internal as well.... in which case you wouldn't feel anything.

Red blood might be the result of a disease such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease, or it can also be because medication has eroded the lining of the bowel low down towards the external opening. (the swear word cruncher won't let me use the real word)

There are many reasons for bleeding from the bowel; some are serious but most are not. Only a doctor can tell which one your's is due to.

Please go to your doctor... :smileypray: ... if only to put your mind at rest.

Hi TBarney,
I had the same problem in 2007 when I had diverticulitis. There was an area in my intestines that became irritated that caused a small bleed. I had quite a bit of discomfort with the diverticulitis. My doctors always told me to let them know right away if I saw any blood in my stool. I know there can be many causes some serious and some not. Always better to let your doctor know right away. Hope you have gone already and we will know how you are soon. Take care.
