my father in law...send positive thoughts
We have been staying at my in laws for our vacation.
tuesday my fil woke up in severe pain in right abdomen area...the ambulance came and took him in to the er and discovered he had a considerable size kidney stone...6mm. they gave him morphine in the er for his pain, 2 doses and phenergan for nausea and tylenol for his back pain in general. they reeturned home about 6 hours later and he slept for nearly18 hours it wiped him out, when he finally woke up he was disoriented and has been this way ever since, the doctors office said it could take 3 days to get the morphine out of his system. It is hard on his wife watching him have conversations with people who are not there and then not making any sense. He will travel to his doctors office tomorrow via ambulance to be examined and then will have lithotrypsy to break up the kidney stones...on monday. We were going to leave on sunday but am unsure now. He is not eating, we have been able to get himto drink some yogurt smoothies and drink a bit of water with his meds. he also has a UTI which can also help to explain the confusion. beth |

oh dear
Dear Beth,
I do hope things go well tomorrow for your father in law, and that he can recover from the procedure smoothly. i'm sorry he went through this thing with the morphine. i imagine that must be really scary. will be keeping you all in my thoughts and sending healing vibes for your father in law. ~ waves ~ |
Oh Beth, I hope it works out okay, I'm sending positive thoughts your family's way. Stay strong!
|
Beth,
I'm sorry to hear that your father-in-law has had so much going on health wise and that he's not himself. I will say a prayer for him and the family. Barbara |
Thinking of you
Dear Beth,
I am thinking of you all, and sending healing energy for your father in law and lots of comforting vibes for everyone else, esp your MIL and Jeff. Please post and let us know how things are when you know something. ((( hugs ))) ~ waves ~ |
I'm sorry to hear about your father-in-law's struggles. How is he doing today?
|
Did they put him Cipro or Levaquin for the UTI?
This family of drugs in high dose causes CNS confusion and worse (perhaps seizures) in the elderly. Combined with morphine or other drugs it can be serious. Hope all resolves well... but be careful. |
So sorry Beth, I can imagine how concerned you all are. I am worried though because after 18 hours the med from the hospital should have been out of the system. If he is not better tomorrow I would go be really concerned there may be something else going on too. The fever if he has one could make him talk like that too.
My prayers are sent, di |
Sending up prayers

Dear Beth
Still thinking of you...
Still sending positive thoughts your way... Hoping no news is good news... Maybe you are just busy taking care of things. ((( :heartthrob:HUGS:heartthrob: ))) ~ waves ~ |
Thank you to all of you.
it took about 3 days for him to return to normal. the doctors office told us that...72 nhours He was speaking in his sleep and chatting away for a full 24 hours. we force fed him some smoothies when he would let us. He remembers nothing. HIs wife will now tell anyone who asks that he is allergic to morphine. He no longer complains of pain so maybe the stone is not traveling???? they can not do the procedure until the 27th. and they will have to hold the plavix for 5 days prior. So he is back to himself. thanks again for your thoughts and well wishes. We will be leaving on monday, home tuesday nite. we were at a beer festival today, had a lot of very good tasting beer, ate sushi, great day...heading to bed, this computer is acting up again.... the cursor keeps jumping back 10 lines so frustrating. beth |
thanks Beth!
Thanks Beth for the update!
my, what trials... and thank goodness he is ok now! glad you did the festival today... i bet you needed a wind-down! :o  ~ waves ~ dreaming of sushi now ;) |

Whaat great news that the crisis is passing. I hope that nothing new causes problems before they can do the procedure.
Beth, if it is a lap top and the curser is jumping, I just had that problem. I went into properties and had to disengage the pointer that is in the center of the lap top keyboard, I updated the drivers too for the mouse, (touch pad) and everything is fine now. That jumping had me nuts. Instead of DELL fixing the pointer, the tech support disengaged it. Safe travels. di |

a bit worried
Dear Beth...
any news? sorry if i am being a mother hen. :o ~ waves ~ |
Thank you for remembering waves,
you are a sweetie. In a nut shell they did not do the procedure. something about his cardiologist wanting him on plavix and aspirin, but the urologist guys not approving the procedure then...it is really not very clear. To me it ment to restart the plavix after the procedure. my hubby is going to call in the morning to try to get a better answer as his mother needs help doing this. they had already stopped the blood thinner for 5 days prior to the lithotripsy date, saw the cardiologist to get an ok for the procedure and he did give the go ahead but had a note at the bottom of the fax that said start the plavix and asa. I don't think that is clear. so hopefully jeff will get a better answer tomorrow. There was also some infection control issues. He had MRSA staph infection 5 years ago and they said it never was proven to be cleared up so he was on isolation while in the office and they did a nasal swab to run to make sure it was cleared up...she had to gown and glove up...it was jsut crazy for them. What an awful day for them. larry is considering just forgetting the whole thing...he is not in any pain, then they were talking about not doing the lithotripsy and going in thru the groin....why would you do an invasive procedure if someone is supposed to be on a blood thinner????? sorry I am just frustrated. hopefully jeff will get these answers tomorrow. beth |
aww man
Geez, i'm really sorry, Beth!
what a mess! :( I can imagine Jeff's parents are quite beside themselves. I sure hope Jeff can help get the information and requirements and contingencies all sorted out tomorrow. It is quite complicated with the past infection and blood thinners in the picture too. And i yeah... that is weird... doing invasive surgery with blood thinners??? hello??? hmmm. Well, thanks for checking in. Keep us posted when you can. I hope you are able to get some rest in spite of this stuff. I realize it is incredible stress.:hug::hug: ~ waves ~ sending soothing vibes you and Jeff and both his parents |
