Have a wonderful vacation Mrs. D!

Hope you can relax, recharge and enjoy yourselves tremendously! We will miss you.

mrsD 07-18-2009 08:59 AM

Oh, Thank you Judy... that is really sweet of you to make a post.

I always come back restored, tanned and rested.

With the weather so cold this season it is nice here at home.
But up there it might be COLD... turning a "vacation" into a "survivor" episode! LOL

daniella 07-18-2009 11:04 AM

Will miss you but hope you get some relaxing time. I think I recall you doing this last year. Do you have a cottage or something?Have fun and take care

mrsD 07-18-2009 11:29 AM

yes, Daniella...

A family home in the UP of Mich. on an island.

Long drive...been doing it almost every year since have been married... 41yrs. Did our honeymoon up there! I only missed summers while hubby was in the army during Vietnam.

We can do more time now, so I stay a long time. Most I've stayed is 3 months. This year it will be 7 weeks.
3months can be cold...June can be very cold up there, so I don't miss that anymore. My son used to come with me when he was in high school and early college. As soon as he started working more he couldn't come to help me, anymore. We painted all one summer, and also did rock/masonry repair another summer.
It is too hard now for me to stay alone...most I will stay is 10 days alone. If the propane burner on the big frig goes out I can't get at it anymore with my leg injury. Propane frigs are very tricky to maintain, and so is the water pump. Mostly "guy" things you know ;) I have fixed things in the past, but it wasn't easy by myself! I don't like to run the boat alone either, because when it is rough I can't handle it. It won't be long when age/illness prevents us from going up there. Not a good place to be for a 911 emergency either!

Drop off some of the cool air in GA when you send it to Chemar!

I hope you have a restful, peaceful vacation. Your house sounds wonderful....wish I had a place like that to retreat to.

Koala77 07-18-2009 05:54 PM

It all sounds wonderful mrsD, and I'm another who'll look forward to seeing your photos. :)

I used to do something similar many years ago when we owned a holiday home on the beach. We'd pack up and move there in December, and not go back home until the end of February or the beginning of March. It was so relaxing and also a good way to "recharge our batteries". You have to remember that our seasons are opposite to your's, so those are our summer months.

Some people here use gas in their holiday homes for refridgeration and cooking, although they're in the minority. If electricity isn't available for some reason, they use generators to make their own. Do you have one of those as well for your lighting, etc? Sorry if I'm being nosey, but....... :D

Have a relaxing vacation Mrs.D...you'll be missed!

Have a grat vaca Mrsd  Wave to Petoskey for me when you drive by :D

mrsD 07-19-2009 05:44 AM

Yes, we have a little generator. 2500w.

We don't use it for much tho...running a generator day and night eats gasoline and makes alot of noise/fumes. And chemical fumes set off my asthma.

We do use it for lighting in late August when it starts getting dark earlier.

In fact this article, I can't resist posting it... as a send off is quite alarming about nanoparticles in the air we breathe setting off plaque in blood vessels, heart attacks/strokes etc.

http://sciencenews.org/view/feature/...tle/Bad_Breath

I used to work in a building that was along a freeway. We often would get diesel fumes sucked into the airshafts if a truck parked close to it. (sometimes the fire trucks would check the hydrants and park idling for more than an hour)... the diesel fumes were pungent and longlasting!
And just as I was retiring...that last year alone we had a cluster of 4 heart attacks/stroke all of a sudden! 3 of them in people under 50. One gal was 33, one gal 47 (stroke), the lone guy died --he was 47, and the computer gal had one but CPR saved her. I was getting really spooked, and began to think we had
dirty building syndrome or something. Now I think this risk factor of dirty air may have been to blame!

So using a generator will not be high on my list this summer! LOL
Our regular size propane frig is back in the storehouse/shed. Not in our home. We do have a little trailer size one in the kitchen tho.
I wonder how much nano-particles it puts out? hmmmm?

One of the most restorative parts of taking a vacation like this is the CLEAN air we have.

Now, to go find a good spot on NT to put up this article so it is not lost.

Koala77 07-19-2009 05:53 AM

Oh dear! No wonder you don't have a generator. Thank you for enlightening me mrsD .... I had no idea they caused so may problems. :(

mrsD 07-19-2009 06:07 AM

This information is rather new... while pollution is known to
cause human illness...the extent of it, and type was unclear...this new "invisible" stuff is pretty scary. And you cannot escape it.

Here the drug companies are cleaning up money wise for useless drugs like statins, when all along the risks are the air we breathe, and can't escape.

I always sleep well up there too. I just hope we don't freeze.
This morning our heat came on here! (and we have turned the thermostat down too!)

Wish I had some of that Florida warmth today! :p
Normally when we leave it is so hot we can barely climb the stairs and go up and down to pack the cars. We live on a hill..and during the hot months it can be very humid and uncomfortable. But this weather is perfect for packing the cars!

Twinkletoes 07-28-2009 07:08 AM

Ahhhhh, that sounds just Great! I hope your pics aren't long in coming. I feel the need to live vicariously through you!

mrsD 07-31-2009 06:12 PM

so far no pics yet...

It has been rainy/cold dreary everyday.
Today it was sunny.... "claps hands"....

Yesterday during the fog... a doe of ours swam over with 2 little fawns....it was wonderful to see. Our first wonderful event.

We are running my hubby's work computer on a G card...and the generator...as an experiment. So far so good. We can only get 2G coverage...it is slow. Lots of pop ups with security stuff that slows us down. I tried the laundromat the other day, with the other laptop and it wasn't too fruitful.
His battery on this unit is short lived.

I hope the summer pans out better than so far. We are coming home earlier...because I really can't handle being alone while he goes home to work this summer. We have had 3 mechanical failures with frig/boats...so I don't want to stay alone this year....I am too old for this. DUH....

So we will probably be home before Labor Day...
The weather is soooooo cool and wet.... it is not fun at all!

Doody 08-03-2009 05:50 PM

I just miss you when you are gone but so glad you can come here and chat anyway! I hope you are having a wonderful time and so look forward to those beautiful pictures you take (((Mrs. D))).

mrsD 08-23-2009 05:37 PM

Well we are back today!

And were greeted with more cold rain! (this year I feel like that Mr. @#$%^ from the old Lil' Abner cartoons. Anyone remember him? He walked around with a gray cloud that rained only on HIM. But at least I have my old trusty computer back.

And Sheba did not die! (I worry about her and the trip etc, she being 23 now!)

At least it wasn't windy or raining when I left up there today.
(it was cold however!)
