swine flu vaccine. will you-won't you ?

So now the fanfare has died down over the flu pandemic, and they hope to roll out the vaccines asap, where does everyone stand on thoughts for and against being vaccinated???

I had thought I would get mine as a matter of course but I'm not so sure if I read everything about it. Here's this morning's example of why I'm thinking twice...
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...s-America.html

I'm probably over reacting again but it's really hard to think straight and decide as always.

Aarcyn 08-15-2009 07:42 PM

no, won't be vaccinated. I have never had a flu shot anyway.

I am pretty isolated, that is another reason. My DH may get it just because he travels a lot by plane.

Snoopy 08-15-2009 07:47 PM

I will get the regular flu shot like I have for several years.

I will not get vaccinated for the H1N1.

Kitty 08-15-2009 08:20 PM

Nope. Never get the regular flu shot and won't get the H1N1, either. If it's not broke I don't try to fix it.

Erin524 08-15-2009 08:48 PM

Not doing it either. It's the first batch of vaccine they're going to be offering, I'd rather wait and see if it's a repeat of 1976. I want to see if people survive this vaccine before I'll even consider letting anyone inject me with it.

I'm just going to keep washing my hands, using my H1N1 Repellent (Purell) and not going out a lot this fall and winter. I'm going to try to limit my exposure to the unwashed masses. (people)

I'll probably get a regular flu shot this year (I have a relative that works in a doctor's office that can give me a free one) I'm staying away from the H1N1 vaccine tho.

Quoted. Agree with both points.

I work in a building that has 500+ employees. I'll go about my life as I would have before. Keeping my area clean, not sharing food and drink, washing my hands diligently, covering my face when I sneeze, etc.

I'm really not overly concerned, I'll be quite honest.

SallyC 08-15-2009 09:34 PM

I see my Doc every October for a check up and he usually insists that I get the reg. flu shot. I'll see what he says about the h1n1.

Lady 08-15-2009 10:58 PM

I don't plan on getting the regular flu shot or the H1N1 either. JMO :)

braingonebad 08-16-2009 08:15 AM

Never had a flu shot. I can't remember last time I had the flu. I think I had some bug last year but that was more of a stomach virus. So I wasn't planning on any shots, but if I'm someplace where it's really bad I might change my mind.

I'm not afraid of the shot. But I don't tend to catch stuff either, so I thought it was kind of a waste of time. Seems like germs are afraid to catch me.

:D

I get the regular flu shot every year, and have never experienced any problems other than a slightly sore arm. Honestly, I am not sure what I will do. I am around college students every day. They are now suggesting we may see an increase in swine flu early in the Fall once all of the kids are back in school. If that is the case, they will not have the vaccine ready.

Dejibo 08-16-2009 09:57 AM

I never get a regular flu shot, and since the old vaccines of 1976 were such a disastour, I will refuse the H1N1 flu shot as well. If I worked in a school or hospital or were still a medic, I mayhave considered it, but since I am home, and can go to bed anytime I want, ...nope, dont think so.

The DH says he will get both, but I am trying to talk him out of the H1N1. I want to see what happens to those that do take it first. He is my soul support, and I rely on him too much to risk GB or other crap. One of being sick at a time is more than enough.

karousel 08-16-2009 01:45 PM

I haven't made any decisions but am leaning toward no flu shot and no H1N1 shot for myself or my DD. Right now my gut is saying no.

I already received a letter from DD's school letting us know that we will receive the permission slip from school to allow them to vacinate DD! She can't be vacinated at school unless we clear it with her allergist (she is allergic to eggs and not sure if this vaccine has eggs or not).

coletaterbug 08-16-2009 04:54 PM

Probably will get flu shot but not other. I was on rebif about 2 years ago(now on copaxone) and I got the flu shot but wasn't aware of pnemonia shot. Ending up getting pnemonia and it was horrible I kid you not I thought I was going to die but after a few days in the hospital and about two months recovery I slowly got over it. I wouldn't do this new shot unless it was highly recommended by my doctor.

NurseNancy 08-17-2009 07:44 PM

i always get the flu shot. i've had the flu before and the misery is awful.
and the muscle pain...knock on wood i haven't been sick in a long time.

the H1N1? i'm not sure. have to talk to my drs and decide for myself.

BBS1951 08-17-2009 08:13 PM

I get a flu shot every year. But, then again, I have asthma and lesions on the heart and lungs.

I will get the swine flu shot unless my doc tells me not to get it. It won't take much for H1N1 to mutate and become a deadly flu.

karilann 08-20-2009 12:21 PM

Swine shot

Never had a flu shot and have never had the flu. Isn't it strange how many of us can say that?
From what I understand the swine flu is especially nasty to little children. Others seem to recover okay.
However; I will be boarding a plane for the Bahamas in November. Planes and airports expose you to EVERYTHING.....so I will check with my doc before I make a decision.
Heck..who knows....there may not be enough vaccine anyway?!

BBS1951 08-20-2009 06:20 PM

My PCP said there will be a swine flu shot and then a booster swine flu shot as well. He said to definitely get it.

He is seeing about two cases per week of swine flu here in Florida, and he said that in Florida, one never sees flu in the summer because of the heat. His colleagues are worried that this means we will be inundated by flu this Fall. School started last week-- that will increase the epidemic.

Debbie D 08-22-2009 12:23 PM

I'm not sure yet...I have never gotten a flu shot. The swine flu usually hits younger people hard, and I'm middle-aged. But I drive the inlaws around, and I don't want to get them sick if I'm a carrier.
My mom's dad died in 1918 from swine flu. It was weak in the spring, just like this one, and came back much stronger in the fall. That's what's expected this time around.
I just heard yesterday that humans have passed the virus on to turkeys in another country...it's not very common for us to pass viruses onto animals.
I have a feeling that this fall is going to be interesting where this is concerned...guess we should all be aware and listen to our docs.

Jules A 08-23-2009 12:26 PM

I get the flu shot each year and it is my understanding that the hospital where I work will be pushing this one pretty heavily so unless something comes to light I'll get that one also. Imo the chances of vaccine related reactions are light compared to the damage of getting over a major illness, missing time at work and possibly instigating MS symptoms.

PolarExpress 08-23-2009 10:28 PM

I wish they'd come up with a new way to make vaccine without using eggs. I'm allergic & have never had a flu shot, won't be able to get the H1N1 either..Had the flu last year but caught it in time for the Tamiflu to knock it out. No fun. On the bright side, I'm not working anymore so not exposed to as much gunk as usual. Just need to avoid those germ infested clinics ..

karousel 08-25-2009 12:31 PM

So after reading the newspaper today I am having second thoughts about this flu shot. "Report: Flu may cause 90,000 deaths". Then it goes on to say 2 million will end up in the hospital and 30,000 to 90,000 will die. Why does the media have to scare the crap out of us??
