Any suggestions for the post-surgical blues?

I was so excited to see braintalk, I didn't put my question under the right heading. I was wondering if anyone had a magic potion, vitamin, or secret as to how to deal with this. I am better, but I think until I go back to work, its gonna be an issue. I am walking over a mile a day (what the doc suggested), but my job required 10. Any way to get those endorphins back (no drugs, please)? Thanks for any help.

Yes, the proper nutrition can help you recover better.

Wound healing, for example, requires good amounts of zinc, vitamin C, E & A. And probably wouldn't hurt to take a b complex too. This article also mentions the importance of having sufficient protein too.

For increasing serotonin levels vitamin b6 and niacin are really the best ways.

I also think that digestive enzymes are wonderful. If you take them on an empty stomach they have benefits like anti-inflammatory properties, and soe other things too. But taking them with your meals can help you absorb the most from your food.

Bromelain is one enzyme that most people are familiar with for dealing with inflammation. Bromelain with papain can be good with meals or on an empty stomach to help with any inflammation.

But the proper nutrition and some enzymes might be a good start.

A Project

Try a project doing something you enjoy! Visit a friend and go out for lunch. Do something kind to yourself like go shopping buy you something nice for yourself. You probably are missing people and your job. When I first had to apply for Disability I was like that for a long time just being home by myself and missing my friends and keeping busy. Now I've adjusted better but still miss work like crazy.

If this is a temporary depression just little things like above could help but if it goes deeper than that you may need to seek a counselor or someone to talk to to determine if the depression is mild or moderate.

Take Care and hope you feel better soon.

Lynn
