Severe Depression, Exhaustion After Detox

Hello again, I came out of detox from pain medication three weeks ago. I was taking Subutex for a long period of time, and decided to get off of it. I made a thread about not being able to sleep, etc. after coming out. My doctor put me on Trazodone, which is helping me sleep somewhat (about four hours per night now). It's also an anti-depressant, but I am getting more and more depressed by the day, instead of feeling better.

I read that taking Subutex has some effect on your adrenal and thyroid. I don't know much about either of them, but I think thats why I have absoloutely no energy. I can barely get out of bed sometimes. I've been taking lots of vitamins, and I've tried forcing myself to exercise, but nothing has worked.

Does anyone know what I should do? Is there a medication that can restore my adrenal (I still dont know what that is really)? I think that if I wasn't so exhausted all the time, my depression would go away. At first it was like a roller coaster of emotions, now I'm just down all the time, and I seem to be feeling worse mentally and physically every day. I'm about to turn 28 years old, but I feel like I'm 88.

Thanks for your time

I'm not an expert with detox or anything but I'm thinking your body might be out of balance from a nutritional standpoint...

Have you considered a naturopathy or treatment along those lines. To get holistically back in balance.

Het NHP!!! Glad to see your post!! You should get into your doc again and get yourself a complete checkup. Hubby suffers from depression and he is always tired as well:(..he hates it because he has a tendancy to retreat to the bedroom when he is depressed but says that it doesn't help him. He is still working with the doc to figure it out. I think he will be getting a machine to help him breath at night as he has mild sleep apnea. Addictions are so very hard on our bodies! When we stop the drug our bodies do not necessarily become healthy again right away. I really think a trip to the doc is in order...your body may just need specific nutrients to get you feeling better.
One thing that cannot hurt is to keep popping in here!! There is usually someone around to lend an ear!!!
I think it is wonderful news that you have came so far!! Hang in there...get some help too...you will see that it is well worth it!!!!!
I am leaving today to go back to our campsite as we were rained out but will be home by the 20th...I will pop back in then to see how you are doing! Please know that I am thinking of you and will say a prayer for you as well! Take Care!:hug::hug:

I took Trazodone for sleep too for a while. My pdoc prescribed it. I had to stop taking it because it kept me extremely tired and made me severely depressed. After a long period of time I became almost suicidal.

The same happened with my mother and with my fiance though he didn't take it long enough for it to make him quite so depressed.

This may not be the best med for you right now. You are also going through withdrawals. The four hour sleep period is about average for almost all sleep aids. 4-6 hours is all you are going to get. With psychotropic sleep aids there is a tendency to have a hungover feeling which can include sleepiness, depression and other side effects.

You may want to try something else like Restoril, or Ambien even.

I have been trying to get off opiates for 7 years the depression is to much for me to take.I'm currently on methadone and trying to stop all together I'm trying taper down to 1mg a day for 3 months.I tried to stop at 15mg but was still lathragect 3 weeks later and could not afford to stay that way.So I went back on methadone and I'll try again. I won't give up, I won't surrender,I WILL BE FREE!I think that people need to slowly come off opiates. The longer you been on them,The longer you should take to come off them.Little by little so you body can start to adjust to the imbalance that the drugs have caused.I was on 120mg at one time so I Know you can come down with out noticing any ill effects.I just haven't been able to stop yet but i will do it.I know where your at and I've been there before. I hope you can beat this horrable illness.

THERE'S AN ADRENAL SUPPORT SUPPLEMENT CALLED CYLAPRIL which I saw advertized on tv. It looked too good to be true and is kind of expensive, but I really believe it is helping me. Nothing dramatic, just that black hole where my energy used to be is filling up again. Sales floor # 1-800-948-5028. Caffeine is widely used as well and works for some people, which is why so many drink it. Oddly, I've found that a lot of people suffering from exhaustion don't like coffee and don't drink it. But you might look into the Cylapril. Like I say, it's adrenal support. I'd say it's effect is somewhat more discernable than most supplements, but it's not really dramatic. I have never heard of subutex, but some pain meds produce a type of energy by reducing the energy-draining pain and tension. billie
