This may help some

If I took away my PD symptoms, I would be left with the same remaining symptoms of CFS, ME and fibromylagia. Further researching those illnesses there is a connection to reactivated viruses.

Testing myself, I have 4 active herpes virus (EBV, HSV-1, HHV-6, Cytomegalovirus). I quit all PD meds. I had already quit sinemet and switched to mucuna but am no longer taking mucuna. I was following the Hinz protocol and they said I was taking a very small amount so one day a few weeks ago, I quit.

I am now taking long term anti-virals, both western meds and natural herbs. I have a long ways to go but have had a few breakthrough days. My biggest complaint has always been pain followed by fatigue. I still have a neurological component (occasional tremor, dexterity, etc)

I'll be spending more time on CFS forums. I suspect this avenue will help some (especially early onset) but not all. The difference being true Parkinson's (decrease of dopamine) vs Parkinsonism from a virus impacting somehow the basal ganglia and having PD like symptoms.

Please check your viral load for active viruses!! Just FYI, I've seen four neurologists (one MDS) and they all said that I have PD....

How did you go about testing for viruses and can you give some detail about your treatment protocal? Do know about the Braak hypothesis, where PD begins in the gut and is caused by viruses, bacteria or some other pathogen?

This is very interesting! Thank you so much for posting. I have wondered so many times if viruses play a role in PD symptoms. I had EBV as a child and was so sick I nearly died.

I too, am curious as to where you took your virus-load labs. I would love to test myself. If you could let us know it would be much appreciated!

I brought the idea to my functional medicine doctor after visiting forums regarding fibromyalgia and ultimately the connection to EBV. I had a blood draw from a blood clinic and it was sent off for a Viral Panel Premier test (Immunosciences Lab in LA). They test for Igg and Igm testing for active viruses.

My protocol is a long term anti-viral (Valtrex) and anti-inflammatories (Tumeric, cannabis, etc. some take LDN). I also take an assortment of antiviral supplements and herbs for immune support. My food is all organic. High amounts of (fruit) dark berries, green veggies, cilantro, tumeric root, thyme, etc.

I had some "herx" -like moments and felt amazingly better after. I am moving food without constipation now and feeling better. When my gut is working, I feel great.

The best book on the subject is Medical Medium. It starts off unbelievable but talks about EBV stages. I am more/less following his protocol and having success so far although he does not mention the use of valtrex.

Thank you so much, Ollie, I greatly appreciate it. I'm definitely going to look into taking these labs and read the link you posted.

I have a friend who is a Dr, and she has a RIFE machine. I used it for a while running frequencies for EBV and I had some large herxes as well, and also felt better after.

I also wonder if a high viral load is why Low Dose Naltrexone works for some people with Parkinson's. And perhaps Amantadine as well...

Anyhow, thank you!

Thanks for that OlliePop - it is very interesting.

The authors of the paper in your link have made some progress since then; Human serum antibodies against EBV latent membrane protein 1 cross-react with α-synuclein. - PubMed - NCBI (free access).

Clearly there is more work to be done but this looks very promising to me.
