Looking for Optimisim

Hello Everyone,

I've noticed my MG symptoms have gotten worse the past week because of the unbelievable amount of mental stress I am under. I am slower than usual and my reflexes aren't as sharp. I know this is MG because I have been here before. I am having a tough time with vision problems that we don't know the cause for yet. It's not exactly double vision, although if I stare at an object for a while, I will get a doubling effect. My Neuro is sending me for MRI to check for Neurological because I am having trouble with slight metamorphopsia. When I try to read, especially black text in a white bakground, the letters slighty move around and get bigger and smaller and it's hard for me to read it. Certain patterns on carpets and walls shimmer and look like they're moving. I don't expect anyone here to know the reason for that, I guess I'm just looking for hope. I see a Neuro-Opthamologist Wednesday and Ive talked to quite a few people with MS but I can't find anyone with this symptom. I'm starting to wonder if it's a constant Occular Migraine because if I take a xanax, its barely noticeable, and first thing in the morning its not bad. It just gets worse as the day progresses and the more I am scared about it. Please pray for me. I went through hell getting MG as a diagnoses because a lot of doctors thought I was crazy. I was postive with the main blood test. We checked at too different labs to be sure. I'm getting 3 MRI sets with and without contrast in the next week too so we should find something out. I'm just stressed/scared and venting helps me. Thank you all.

I've had similar things happen with my vision. It's not all the time though. It comes and goes. I don't know the reason for it. Recently, the reading of words as you described got really bad as well as my eye jerking back and forth. By the time I got in to the neuro-ophthalmologist, it had settled down and I had a normal exam. Go figure.

I've also had a couple occular migraines but they only lasted for 20 minutes max. My first one scared the carp out of me but one I realized what it was it made it more tolerable. Zig zag lines in your vision are classic symptoms. My first one was black and white zig zag lines. My second one was wave colorful lines. But again, mine didn't last that long.

Hopefully the MRI will help in a diagnosis of what is going on with your vision as well as seeing the neuro-ophthalmologist. In the meantime, try to best to keep relaxed. Anxiety can increase some symptoms, which creates more anxiety, which makes the symptoms worse and a whole cycle begins. Find something that you can focus on, not necessarily visually, but a thought - kind of like taking a mini mental vacation. It really does help pull things back in to perspective.

Let us know how things go with your testing and such. Hang in there.

Will be as optimistic as possible! Are you hoping the eye problems are not possible MS?

Ocular migraines are temporary; they last maybe 20-30 minutes. Mine are a little less than that. I've not heard of them being a permanent fixture. But I'm no doctor.

I used to have a t-shirt that had a striped pattern that, because of the material, would move and shimmer. Had to get rid of it. But my experience with that one pattern, even though it semi-resembles your experience, does not mean you have MS.

MS is hard to diagnose (or I should say, "can be" hard), and I would think having MG would throw a wrench into that mix.

The most upbeat thing I can say is that your eye problem are not really consistent with what I've heard about MS-caused eye problems.

Again, I'm no doctor! I hope you get your eyes figured out by a doctor, and get some relief! What did the neuro-opthamologist say?
