What's on your plate????

Oh a lot of things...I feel like we've been in a "pissing match" around here...very unusual for this forum but on hindsight...that's what families occasionally do. :grouphug:

Last night we went to an excellent presentation at IUSB put on by the Suicide Research Team. We are fortunate to have Professor John McIntosh on our campus. He is nationally and internationally known for his work on suicide, especially with regard to the elderly. He is former President of the American Association of Suicidology and is known for his research into the "survivors" of suicide...family members and other close friends who are left behind when someone take his or her own life.

And he is very approachable..has helped me in the past with questions pertaining to various forums I have participated in.

As always the statics are alarming...more about that later.

I'm having lunch with Barbo at a new place and hoping the wallpaper will arrive in a day or two. *grin

Hugs for the room....

What's on your plate???

fear and unsettlement

a lot of fear is on my plate. about this that the other and everything else.

i feel terribly unsettled and disturbed today.

there are people in the house overhauling the chimney and that is not helping. i want to dig a hole and hide in it.

Dear Alffe

i am sorry if i was inappropriate.

i only said things i felt really needed to be said.

i would have felt worse if i had not said them.

i am sorry if it sounded like i was pissing on people. i had to look up pissing contest to confirm that it was as bad as i thought it was. it was. i was not trying to compete with anyone. i feel that things that were said, either should not be on this forum at all, or, if they are going to be said (i do not advocate silence), should not go unanswered. and i am glad others said things about 9/11 that somehow got mixed up in a deal i didn't feel it deserved to be. one doesn't need to post, to be hurt.

i am concerned because Tom hasn't posted today. i hope he isn't hurt. but i also hope he understands the difference between us helping him and having to navigate potentially instigatory territory. my hope is that he can continue to share his concerns but make it more about himself and less about making suicide OK as a sort of class action suit.

i have my own problems and am on medication and it seems to be having an effect in patches but my mood is all over the place independently of what happens here, and my house is overrun with strangers today which makes me acutely uncomfortable. we have no hot water (heater has been ripped out) and the kitchen is inaccessible to boot.

~ waves ~ who really likes being called waves and would probably turn around if someone on the street yelled "hey, waves!"

Alffe 09-09-2010 09:42 AM

LOL..waves at waves!

And my pissing match remark was not leveled at anyone in particular so please do not take it personally. We, all of us, have strong opinions about suicide, the causes, prevention, end of life choices...I just felt that had we been together in real life...it would have been loud! :D

thank you, ok i think i understand the remark better now... yes, it would have been a ruccus. the definition i read was about intellectual competition without purpose other than to one-up others... and that didn't seem applicable ... i understand now, you were more referring to the degree of involvement, and taking of positions, and perhaps not so much the without purpose bit.
