Life After Embryonic Stem Cells
Sorry if the topic is repeated but the Time article is good reading :
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/ar...687011,00.html Twenty-five days. That's how long it took Dr. Shinya Yamanaka of Kyoto University to undo more than 30 years of exquisitely programmed biology packed into a woman's cheek cell — and just maybe change the world. .... |
i don't think...
that embryonic cell research is dead yet. Biologists still need such cells to reveal some of the intricacies of cellular biochemistry related to the working of genes to engineer cells that do EXACTLY what we want them to do. There still is a lot of work to do concerning the turning on and the repression of specific genetic control over the overt functioning of the cells destined to be used in therapeutic medicine.
However, this is imho, a big leap, rather than a tiny step. |
