Nerve pain remission and relapse ??
 

Hi,

I developed horrid nerve pain in 2013, a condition called vulvodynia..I had paresthesia, allodynia, electric shocks, aching, etc etc...
It started for no logical reason...I had a stressful period followed by getting a bartholin cyst. I was so frightened I would have to get it lanced since I had previous trauma of this...somehow something went wrong in my central nervous system or something and from that day on I had the sensation of a phantom cyst but there was no cyst to be seen ...as if the nerves had remembered ...
anyway, long story short, I was put on amitriptyline 50 mg which worked afte 3 months ...but left with pain with touch ...I then took lyrica 300 mg for 8 months..,weaned off...later on weaned off amitriptyline completely and had 1 year and 4 months with no symptoms, pain or anything numb ..it was GONE.

Well, 5 weeks ago after another period of stress and anxiety and my neuropathy has returned ...
Now something doesn't make sense here to me .... It can't be nerve damage since I had a pretty long time without pain and everything felt normal 100%...
My current GP is currently treating me with amitriptyline 30 mg which started working after 4 weeks on it ... so my paresthesia is gone and I don't have pain... but will go higher soon...for me Lyrica was a miracle pill and made my whole skin and body numb..I also had surgery while on it and had no postoperative pain .. I would build a shrine for Lyrica if I could.

Has anyone else had anything similar in the body? foot, hand, or other nerve pain that responds to medication and then achieves remission ??

I studied a mathematics-oriented degree at my uni and I believe in statistics, data and proof. Nothing from my condition makes sense, I have exhausted all the information on nerve pain I found on the internet ...yes, ok I know nerves can develop memory and they "talk" to each other and I read about central sensitization ...but I am missing a puzzle piece ...

I am currently finally and at last focusing on treating my anxiety. I have severe anxiety where I feel like collapsing so that's been neglected.
Is it possible for anxiety in the extreme to make the central nervous system "break down" and create erroneous pain signals??

Thanks for reading, I don't have access to a neurologist, they would never refer me anyway

My understanding is that there are many different causes of peripheral neuropathy, some of which may overlap. I suspect that there are currently unknown causes as well, maybe including anxiety - we still have a lot to learn about this.
