Extraction with sedation

I'll have tooth #14 extraction in a few days, with a sedation, because it's a previously root canaled tooth with a broken root, which is either very close to or in the sinus and it has a crown. I was reading the older posts over again to get ready for this dental procedure. I never had a sedation for a tooth extraction before so I'm nervous about that too. Any advice ?
Thank you !

Hi nyuszisie,

What type of sedation are you having? Oral, pill form prior to the appointment or IV sedation?

I'll have IV sedation. I know about not eating and drinking for at least 6 hours before the surgery.

You answered me the last time that i can take Excedrin 48 hours after the extraction if needed for my headaches, but what about before the extraction ( with sedation ) ?
Thanks

Nyuszisue,

I assume you want to take something prior to the sedation to calm your nerves?

You should not take any food or drugs by mouth at least 6 hours prior to the appointment. Other than daily medication and you should have spoken to the surgeon about doing that if needed.

To help reduce the anxiety you can take a homeopathic remedy called Ignatia Amara 30X or C. Hylands brand recommends 4 tablets under the tongue, 4 times in one day. You can do that day prior to the surgery and then take 4 tablets an hour prior to the surgery. This homeopathy will not interfere with anything else you are taking or the sedation medication but it is not wise to take more than the manufactures recommendations.

For pain, you can take homeopathic Arnica Montana 30X or C or even higher like 200 X or C immediately after the surgery and continue as directed on the bottle. This homeopathic can be used in place of pain meds or it can be taken an hour before or after pain meds. Again, it is not wise or necessary to take more than recommended.

Did I answer your question?
Bryanna

I have these headaches regularly that's why I was asking about Excedrin ( only that helps me with my headaches ). For calming the nerves , that is a nice suggestion. And I know about Arnica, I was taking it with my last extraction. Can I take it even if I get antibiotics ? ( Clindamycin probably )
Thanks !

It looks like I don't know how to edit my own post so I have to write in a new post.
My other worry is I have to blow my nose several times especially in the morning, and I know that's a big NO-NO, how I'm going to deal with that ?

Bryanna 03-01-2016 07:43 PM

Nyuszisie,

Homeopathy can be taken if you are on antibiotics. Just take it one hour away from the antibiotic. Also, you should not eat or drink for 30 minutes after you take a homeopathic remedy.

Be sure to tell the oral surgeon that you have a sinus problem and need to blow your nose in the AM. He may suggest a saline nasal spray to use. Could the sinus problem be tooth related?? Ask him to let you know if he comes upon a sinus communication when he extracts the tooth. If he says yes, ask him how large is it and what did he do to mend it?

What will the saline nasal spray do and can I use that even if there will be a sinus connection ?
Also, I'm trying to think in which order will I need to take the Arnica, the pain pills ( if I need them ), the probiotic ( I take one a day now ) and the antibiotic (if he gives me that too ). I understand the one hour between homeopathic and the pain pills or antibiotic, but I'll need some kind a schedule.
The dentist gave me prescription for Norco 5/325 in case I need something stronger. If i don't need that one, what is better to take Advil, Motrin or Tylenol ?
Can a dry socket develop even with the stitches ?
Thank you Bryanna so much for your time to answer !

Nyuszisue,

I will re post your thread and answer in bold type.

<<What will the saline nasal spray do and can I use that even if there will be a sinus connection ?>>

SALINE NASAL SPRAY HELPS REDUCE INFLAMMATION IN THE SINUSES AND HELPS CLEAR THE PASSAGES. HOWEVER, YOU MUST ASK THE ORAL SURGEON IF YOU SHOULD DO THIS OR NOT.

<<Also, I'm trying to think in which order will I need to take the Arnica, the pain pills ( if I need them ), the probiotic ( I take one a day now ) and the antibiotic (if he gives me that too ). I understand the one hour between homeopathic and the pain pills or antibiotic, but I'll need some kind a schedule.>>

SCHEDULE:
PROBIOTIC ON ONE HOUR PRIOR TO OR TWO HOURS AFTER THE ANTIBIOTIC. IF YOU ARE TAKING IT ONCE A DAY, THEN TAKE IT FIRST THING IN THE MORNING OR LAST THING AT NIGHT.

ARNICA AND OTHER HOMEOPATHY: USUALLY 4 TIMES A DAY ONE HOUR AWAY FROM THE MEDICATION.

ANTIBIOTIC: AS RECOMMENDED AND USUALLY WITH FOOD.

PAIN MEDS: AS RECOMMENDED OR NEEDED BUT 30-60 MINUTES AWAY FROM ANTIBIOTICS OR HOMEOPATHY AND PREFERABLY WITH FOOD.

YOU WILL HAVE TO MAKE A WRITTEN SCHEDULE BASED ON THE INFORMATION I HAVE GIVEN YOU.

<<The dentist gave me prescription for Norco 5/325 in case I need something stronger. If i don't need that one, what is better to take Advil, Motrin or Tylenol ?>>

I AM NOT A PHARMACIST OR A BIG ADVOCATE OF PAIN MEDS, I USE HOMEOPATHY. FYI.. ADVIL AND MOTRIN ARE EXACTLY THE SAME THING.
SOME PEOPLE ALTERNATE THE PAIN MEDS TAKING ADVIL OR MOTRIN AND THEN SEVERAL HOURS LATER TAKE A TYLENOL.

<<Can a dry socket develop even with the stitches ?>>
YES.

<<Thank you Bryanna so much for your time to answer !>>
YOU'RE WELCOME.
