Alcohol?

Does anyone notice an almost immediate reaction after having a drink? I don't drink alcohol because it makes me feel very lethargic. Once in a while I"ll try a glass of wine, ususally when I'm out to dinner with my husband. The last two times I noticed that after just a couple of sips, my chest starts feeling really "heavy" and I have difficulty breathing. I thought the first time was not related to MG, but after the second time, I'm thinking that it is. Has anyone else noticed this?

Wow, one of the effects of alcohol is "Decreased transmission in acetylcholine systems." That explains a lot! It explains why alcohol increases my symptoms immediately and drastically (or it did last time I tried it--which explains why last time was the last time!). It also explains why I walk like I'm drunk even when I'm not.

Yeah, Abby, it can suck the acetylcholine right out of you! ;)

That's weird that alcohol has no effect on you, Tyson. If I have a couple sips of champagne, for example, I wake up unable to breathe at night.

Kim, I would also tell your neurologist that you are that sensitive to alcohol right now. It might be that your MG is on the edge.

When I drink. I also drink heavily. Which is not often. Although most of it was in my younger days when I never knew any better. I would drink to the point of blacking out. But I've never had any problems (that I'm away of) Most of my myasthenia is ocular. Although I never drank when I had generalized myashtenia that seems to be in remission maybe? Cross fingers.
