epilepsy and auditory processing disorder?
 

My 20 year old recently took an aptitude test, and the examiner threw out the results because she felt that they were invalid, compared to her good ACT score. She told me that she thought my daughter might have a communication disorder. Since she was in speech classes in school for fluency, I have had her speech diagnosed as normal several times, but I have never done central auditory testing, which I have scheduled for her. When I read the info on the web, auditory processing problems seem to be very prevalent in temporal lobe epilepsy, but no neurologist or psychologist has ever mentioned it to me. Has anyone here ever had it done? And if so, what did they find, and how did they remedy it? My daughter does shy away from social interactions and avoids talking to us when the tv is on in the room. She's not much of a talker, period.

The examiner should have never thrown out your daughters aptitude test that is discrimination all the way!! I took the aptitude test yrs. ago and mine was never thrown out. In regards to your daughter speech as I'm sure you know speech is on the left side of the brain but in some cases like mine they found my speech was split on both sides of my brain and I have TLE also. My advice to you is to have your daughter see a neuropyschologist, a neuropysch. can tell what side of the brain your daughter is using the most and can also tell if the problem is do to E or something else. The tests are very simple to do I've had them done a few times before and after brain surgery. Here's wishing you and your daughter the best of luck. May God Bless You Both!

Thanks for your reply, Sue. I think the examiner threw out the results because she knew she didn't have any thing helpful to say to my daughter. Maybe that's what it took to motivate me to get the auditory testing, so we will see what happens. My daughter did have a battery of testing done, and her psychologist consulted with the neuropsychologist, and it wasn't very enlightening so maybe that was another "jab" to get me moving in another direction.

I was diagnosed with apd in elementry school. I am 38 now. I too had a good ACT score and did well in school. I am interested to find out if there is a link between apd and any other neurological disorder. I say this because I suffer from Trigeminal Neuralgia and have just recently been wondering about a connection. If you have any questions about my experiences with apd feel free to ask.

Thanks for your reply, Will. My daughter's testing is tomorrow and if it proves that she does have apd, I am sure I will have some questions about your experience. In the meantime, I googled trigeminal neuralgia and auditory processing disorder and there seem to be many articles discussing the two together.
