Choose the new forum's name!

From the suggestion of new names for the forums, I've whittled our choices down to just a few to make sure we have a clear preference. Please choose your favorite from the choices above.

Here are some of my thoughts

Hi all ~

I picked Braintalkers from the list but to be honest I don't care for any of the names. I feel when looking at the list that the names picked seem to be out of spite and anger over BrainTalk being down so long.

You have a good thing going here with the start of a new board so why use any name that connects to JL's BT?

Here are my thoughts on why I don't like the names we have to pick from:

Neurotalk ~ I feel is not a good name because this forum is more then Neurological from all the topics seen here. You need to let others know it is more then Neurological conditions. Neuro & talk are to close to JL's names for his forum.

Betterthanbraintalk ~ I feel this name is just down right RUDE and MEAN.

Brainforums ~ I feel the same as I do about Neurotalk. To me this name doesn't make sense?? Again using the word Brain in the title. I think you should stay clear of using the word Brain when picking a new name.

Even though I picked "Braintalkers" I don't like that it is way to similar to JL's name.

Like I said before you have a good thing going here so why not start fresh with a name for this forum which will be of it's very own and not connected to JL's board???

DocJohn ~ Please think about my suggestions and ask everyone to come up with names which will be for this board and make it Special on it's own. Don't rush into selecting a name for this forum. If you plan to keep it up and running when JL's BT is up then make the name different. Again tome the names suggested seem to come from anger and spite.

I guess I said enough.

Thank you for listening.
Shirl :)

Shirl,

From my understanding, there were a lot of names suggested in the thread about suggested new names that were totaly unconnected to braintalk or neurology in any way - names like HealthSupport.

It is my understanding that DocJohn picked these 4 names for us to vote on because they were from the thread of suggestions AND because they are available as website names (example, NeuroTalk.org IS available, but HealthSupport.org is NOT available).

DocJohn had a limited number of names to choose from because even though there were a lot of great suggestions, many of those are already being used as websites.... so it appears to me that he picked 4 that were good suggestions, that were available as websites, and that people on the suggestion thread said that they liked.

BrainTalk itself has always been considered to be a neurological health support forum - even though a lot of the illnesses were not in the catagory of being neurological.

Of the four I voted for neurotalk but I still like the Noodle one. :D

neurotalk is mine but you can have it

I had not been paying attention to tis thread until last night when it was brought to my attention that a potential conflict was developing. You see I have been usng "Neurotalk" for a few weeks at http://www.forums4free.co.uk/forums/?mforum=neurotalk
but only as a dummy placeholder for a prototype online conference a group of us are attempting to put together regarding Parkinson's next year.

However, I got to thinking and, given the importance of this forum, I have peremptively registered the domains "neurotalk.net" and "neurotalk, org" ("com" is already taken) lest some spoiler do so first.

If the group decides on "Neurotalk" (and it is a good choice) I will be happy to go along with a transfer of all rights to Docjohn or whatever body is appropriate at no charge.

Wittesea ~ :)

Thank you for your thoughts. I have read the thread where members posted suggestions and also read that some are taken already. I just posted my thoughts is all.

I do understand this comment:

It just seems everyone wants this board to be like JL's and I think it shouldn't be is all. Do youknow what I mean? ;)

I know what you mean about wanting this board to be seperate and different from JL's braintalk.

Based on what I have read here, about half the people want this place to be very very different, and the other half want it to be as close to "the original" as possible.

So, I do understand your feelings and opinions, and I understand that you aren't the only one who feels that way, which is why I was trying in my last post to show that DocJohn isn't personally trying to copy braintalk, he is just working with what he has (suggestions for names from the members here, and availabity of those names).

I wasn't trying to dismiss your feelings/opinions, and I wasn't trying to suggest that you change those feeling or opinions, and if that's the way my post 'sounded' then I do apologize.

My only goal in my last post was to just help you, and others who feel the same way, to understand the reasons behind the similarities. My goal was certainly never to try to convince you or anyone to change a feeling or opinion.

Personally, I can't decide if I would prefer this place to be very different or very similar. I can see upsides and downsides to both. I just want a support forum that is available and reliable.

Wittesea, once again, I rolled on down the road, the bold-blue-underline in DocJohn's post was the first thing I saw, banged into it and stopped there, clicked on it and went to the other thread, didn't see anything new.... Your post gave me a clue that I had missed something at the crash scene. The poll. My brain and I aren't on speaking terms this week, but still.... Thanks. :)

You have a lot on your plate to deal with. I hope today is a little easier on you.

I agree that betterthanbraintalk shouldn't be a choice. It won't win any confidence in these forums, which, if named spitefully, may not turn out to be better.

two cents

No problem dear and thank you for this last post. :) You are a doll!:D

Thank dear! I completely understand now. This goal of yours is GREAT!: My goal was certainly never to try to convince you or anyone to change a feeling or opinion. I agree with you 100%!
