My insurance quit covering it several years and I had to stop cold turkey, during a divorce. It really was pretty horrible. I ran out of my adderall that same week as well.. which also was dropped from my insurance. I lived but never again. :Bang-Head: I'm back on effexor and doing well on it so far. good luck to you and god bless.

Are you going on anything at all to replace it???

Hey dorrie~ I have been taking EffexorXR for a couple of yrs now, and haven't experienced any side effects that I know of. My Dr had taken me off of Lexapro to put me on it.

Are you going off of it solely b/c of the wt gain? Are you going to start another med? Take care Dorrie and let your Dr know if you have any side effects that concern you.

I never weened off of effexor... switched immediately to Cymbalta.... I actually lost about 25 lbs on Effexor... Gained it all back plus many more due to other meds...

Sorry for the rambling...

Thanks for your replies!! I am still doing OK. I am now on 1/3 the dose that I used to be. I am not replacing it with anything else. I am going off of it because I was taking it to help me through my earlier sobriety for anxiety....I do think that I can cope now...I got sober almost 8 years ago..I have been on effexor for almost that long! The weight gain is a big part of it though however I have tried to get off it for the purpose of losing weight and always end up taking it again :grouphug:

Weight Gain & Effexor

I've been taking Effexor for over five years without any weight gain.
