HBOT for Alzheimers, Anyone?
 

Hi everyone! I'm wondering if anybody has any experience treating an Alzheimers patient with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy? I have done some internet research, but I would be interested in any personal experience, you might share with me. I really would like to know at what ata, how long(duration of dive) and how many dives, as well as results. I'm really not sure of the Alzheimers diagnosis. The dementia may be Lyme related, but we are waiting for test results. Thank you so much in advance for any response.

No experience, but very interested in HBOT
 

I do not have any experience in HBOT for Alzheimer's.

However, because of reading this post, I began to look into this, and found enough info to make me want to consider this therapy for my mother. I already spoke with an outfit in Tampa about renting a unit, and I am waiting to hear from another organization. I also ordered a book on HBOT, which I think I am going to scan before I make a final rental decision.

(I have been into Alt Med for 24 years, and have now and then heard good things about HBOT. After reading Dr. Douglass’ book on Hydrogen Peroxide, I believe him when he says that oxygen is the body’s most critical nutrient: Since we can survive weeks w/o food, days/hours w/o water, but only minutes w/o oxygen. Dr. Douglass helped--and cured some--patients with AIDS, in Africa, with simple hydrogen peroxide--amazing.)

I believe that if the HBOT were not to help my mother’s dementia, it would surely help her general health, and a trial would be worth it after all. I also would want to put my father on HBOT, if I rent a unit.

Since the price of rental is not prohibitively high, I would suggest to anyone to at least give this therapy a 30-day-trial, if there should be any chance at all that HBOT can benefit his/her condition.

I was wondering if YOU or any one else out there has tried the HBOT for Alzheimer's?? We are considering it for my mother-in-law (she is 83) but we are really on the fence and desperately searching for advice from anyone who has actually tried it for Alzheimer's and what success they have or haven't had.

We have quite a list of pros and cons...the cost is on the con list of course, however, if we KNEW that she we get enough benefit from it the cost would not be an issue. Also on our con list is travel...we have to is travel to a neighboring state to take her to a clinic. There is not one in our state, nor is there any place to rent the equipment here. We would have to stay in a hotel for the duration of the treatments (added cost, hotel, meals etc) again if there would be significant benefit it would be worth the cost.

I would appreciate comments, especially if anyone has tried this therapy as an Alzheimer's treatment for their parent.

I a little experience of both HBOT and also Alzheimer's but not the two together.
It strikes me that for an Advanced Alzheimer's patient the experience of being pressurized might be difficult or even frightening. It might be difficult to get the patient to appriciate the reasons for doing the treatment and they might not want to do it. If a patient suddenly wanted to stop the treatment there would be the difficulty of depressurizing, so they wouldn't be able to stop it immediately. This might cause distress. You would need to consider any health and safety aspects of having a distressed patient in a pressurized environment.
I don't know about the efficacy of treatment, but I can well understand being prepared to do whatever might help.
