jaw bone lump

I have a lump on my lower jaw that seems either fixed to the jaw bone, or part of it. Its a little sore when I fiddle with it; about the size and shape of half an almond, split down the length. I first noticed it about a month ago, maybe two? And thought nothing of it. However it's come to my attention recently, I can't really say if that's because it's gotten bigger or whether its something mental.

any thoughts would be appreciated!

thanks!

Hi markhouston,

If the lump is facing the cheek side of the jaw, then it could be an infection. If the lump is on the inside of the jaw near the tongue and it is not new, then it could be what is called mandibular tori. These lumps are bony protrusions and are part of the jawbone... not everyone has these. They are not a problem unless they grow large or interfere with talking or eating. If the lump is new.... it is wise to see your dentist asap.
