Patient/Family Ignorance
 

I have had Hydrocephalus(and Epilepsy) my whole life(45yrs.). So, When an online friend was diagnosed last week with both, Hydrocephalus(and Epilepsy), I was completely blown away.

The sad thing is, that, while my online friend's sister, has Epilepsy, she n' her fiance seem to think that this won't be a lifelong thing to deal with.

My friend is going to nursing school, starting in the fall. I just hope she doesn't have all the problems I had at the 'collegiate' level.

Has anyone ever encountered someone thinking your Hydrocephalus would 'just go away'?

Ha... I don't mean to laugh... but I smiled in a sad way while reading this.

I am 16 and have been dealing with hydrocephalus and pseudotumor cerebri since the age of 10.

I've lived the way your friend is since my diagnosis and honestly it is the only way I can get by and it has helped me and the people around me greatly(:

You say its ignorance, but sometimes ignorance IS bliss.

Why should she change her way of living just because she has this shortcoming?

Embrace the times that you have in good health face it head on when it comes and move on, we are normal. Just with a few extras(;

I agree with facing life head on. But it is hard to get back up, when you have professionally, and emotionally be beaten up so much, that you no longer have the willpower to get back up.
