I think I need to buy a pie pan -- not sure if I have one anywhere.

I am making pecan pies again this year using the preformed crust in the pan, nilla wafer crust, comes out different and you get the pan already just toss it when you are done. they make regular pie crust that come in pans as well in your frozen food section I think.
are you going to try to make a crust?
you are brave!

My summer fav, is Key Lime.
For the holiday, we all miss De's Apple crumb pie with a grahm cracker crust.
I use to do the apples for her, she had the receipe in her head...
I once printed it...

Everyone went gaga over it. TOns of apples, piled so high, lots of sweetness, and crumbs on top We would go through a basket of all types of apples .
Miss it much...

I've become a fan of Sweet Potato also.

But I also love Chocolate Cream pie, pumpkin and pecan. Oh and
we have to have sugar cream.

Dear Beth,
My mother didn't make pies and hated making pie crusts so I think I never learned to get good at them. I think of pecan pie as difficult and fruit pies as easier.
Are you good at baking?

Dear Waves,
Do you have graham crackers?
You live in place with amazing food. And yet. . .
Maybe we have to trade places.
I read that some place use lard for their pie crusts. The pies made that way have nicer crusts than our (US) mushy pies. Is that how your Mom would make them?

Dear DiMarie,
Thanks for sharing those memories of your daughter's apple pies.

Dear Donna,
I never heard of Sugar Pie. I looked it up. Wikipedia says it is an Indiana thing -- don't know if wikipedia is right.
I used to work at Dennys a long time ago and I remember their Chocolate pie.

Dear Majo,
Really? Have you ever had pineapple pie? Sounds new to me.
I don't eat pineapple. I tell people I am allergic to it, but I just don't like it. Sweet potato is similar to pumpkin but not exactly. Some people use similar spices. Your list reminded me of coconut pie. That sounds good.

Dear Mari

my mom would use a ready-made crust, period. even if she had room to make one, which we do not.

and no, we don't use lard for any baking. she used to use Crisco for some cooking... in the 80's (not here, no Crisco here)... but now that is known not to be healthy. we don't use anything with transfats. theoretically speaking, if she made a pie crust, she would use butter.

Oh... no we don't have graham crackers either. Pies aren't made here. There is a similar pastry thing but they are not pies. So you can't just go buy a pie, either.

keep in mind when i visited as a kid, the only kind of cereal available here was corn flakes. couldn't even get rice krispies. nowadays you can get more, but there is not a whole "cereal aisle" even in huge mega-supermarkets which we now have. the cereal section is at most maybe 3-4 yards long.

yes this is an incredible food place. if you like the immense variety of local, even regional and d.o.c. products, esp. cheese, meat, and wine, that you cannot get in the US. somehow i don't think those particular specialties would float your boat. ;) :o

for instance, one of them is a particular type of lard... i nearly freaked when it was offered me. it is served raw/sliced on hot bread or bready-type things. it melts. sound good? ROFL! kidding! :D:eek:

I hope your outing goes smoothly today and that you have a good time with your friend. :)

Sure ! the pineapple one is similiar to the apple one.. and, I like it because the pineapple loose its acidity... :o
