Anyone heard any more on this?

The article is quite vague on how the donated stem cells are used. There are a number of clinics in the US which use a patients own stem cells. Phoenix Stem Cell and Stemgenex being just two. I'm still not sure if the therapy helps, but it sure seems to beat going overseas to try this therapy. US stem cell treatments don't allow stem cells to be multiplied over a period of days. Instead the stem cells are harvested and then put back into the patient by IV the same day.

It seems risky, wherever it's done. I wonder about the long term implications.

Apparently, over 30,000 stem cell treatments have been done in the US with little if any problems. Stemgenex works under an FDA IRB (independent review board) so they're watched pretty close. yeah, not sure of long term but they use your own cells so it seems safe.

Desperate patients are turning to therapy at unregulated clinics overseas that say they can treat many diseases. But one man experienced tragic consequences.

Sadly, stem cells may one day be a cure for many illnesses including Parkinson's but when greed gets ahead of the science this only slows the research. I'd be very reluctant to be treated with stem cells in other countries!
