ouch ouch ouch

I just need to vent a minute....

I am in sooooooo much pain. Hubby and I were in a car oops last Thursday. I call it a car oops because it wasn't really an accident since we didn't hit anything, nothing hit us, and there is not a scratch on the car...

But we were on the highway doing about 65-70mph when there was an accident right in front of us - hubby slammed on the brakes and we missed the accident by less than a foot (thankfully).... also thankfully, the 4 car accident that we missed being involved in was not too serious and the worst injury was that one guy had a broken wrist... everyone else walked away with bumps and bruises and aches and muscle injuries.

Even though we didn't hit a thing, our car went from 65mph to 0 in a few seconds, and the rapid braking and stopping caused both of us to get muscle injury to our backs and necks from the rapid change in speed.

I also have severe bruising on my chest from the seatbelt slamming into me as hubby slammed on the brakes.

I hurt. I ache. I want to scream.

My entire back is in a constant muscle spasm and nothing is helping. I have been to the ER twice (once right after the near accident, and again on Saturday) and both times the most the doctor will say is to continue my current meds and "take it easy". I called my doc and she is closed until the 2nd, and the doctor on call is the same one who I saw in the ER.

Anyway, I just needed to vent and moan and complain. This is not how hubby and I wanted to start the new year...

I hope everyone had a good holiday, and Happy New Year to all.

oh gosh that stinks!

can you get some ultrasound or low level laser tx for your back from anyone?
it might help a little bit.

It sounds like you might benefit from The therapy as the poster before
was stating. And I hope you can get your doctor to send you for
that. Its one of the things that has definately helped me.

Sending you hugs.

Your Insurance Company

Liz:

Even tho you or your hubby were involved in the accident, you need to report it to your auto insurance and state you've been to the ER twice. It should not cause your auto insurance to increase. You know the date, time, etc. the accident occurred. Get a copy of it from the local police dept. (public records) for your benefit.

However, if you've had some damage to your body, then your insurance company will be required to pay.

Hubby was driving his big 4WDrive Truck and I was a passenger & were we stopped at a 'Yield Sign' when we were rear-ended in 3/14/05. I could kick myself for not getting in the ambulance (even tho it was less than 1 1/2 miles to the local hospital) as the guy's insurance has not paid a dime in my medical bills.

Since then, I've had ACDF at C6-C7 5/2/05, ACDF at C5-C6 with metal plating at C5-C7 (previous surgeon 5/5 didn't put a plate to hold donor bone in) with 6 screws & PLIF at L4-L5 (was supposed to be L4-S1, but was autofused by the time of surgery) on 1/18/06 & received SSD in 9/06 due to accident.

Just FYI for Ya and Hope ya get to feeling better soon. Happy New Year!

Geez Liz! I hope you are feeling better today! I am so glad that the both of you are "okay" but as usual it seems that this doc is not very helpful. Just think....one more day until you see your normal doc!

I am so sorry to hear about this Liz. I am thankful it wasn't even worse, but that probably isn't a big consolation when you are laying there in pain. I hope you heal quickly~

Thanks all.

I am feeling slightly better today. It's hard though to be able to tell whether this flare is all from the near miss accident, or if it is partially due to the holiday. When the near miss happened I was already in a flare from doing so much for Christmas, and then the car thing made it all worse, but now it's hard to tell if my current flare is all from the holiday, all from the car thing, or a bit of both.

I see my regular doctor tomorrow, so hopefully she can help figure it all out and do something to make me fel better. I will also be getting some blood test results tomorrow that were done right before Christmas, so it should be a long and interesting appointment.

Claudia - thanks for the info about the car insurance. The person who caused the accident (the guy who ended up with the broken wrist) has accepted responsibility and has already paid our out-of-pocket expenses from the ER (co-pays) and he also has offered to pay to have our car checked by a mechanic to make sure that the sudden braking didn't break anything or cause flat-spotted tires. He's a good guy, so I'm not worried about any of it... and I have plenty of lawyers in my family to make sure that things are being done correctly within the law and that we are not giving up our rights to ask/sue/collect for future expenses by cashing the current checks for expenses.

Anyway, it's been a very long week... I haven't even had the time/energy to sit and the PC to type out the whole christmas experience and the craziness that my psycho-mother caused. Maybe that's a good thing though - the near miss accident gives me something else tot hink about and talk about so I can stop focusing on my crazy mother. LOL.

I hope the New Year is going well for all of you :)
