Nomad - rear ended car accident

Not sure if any of you have any MVC rdata on what speed of rear impact will cause a concussion? There's the NFL settlement now with players who were injured, highlighting concussion issue.

Yet,there's no data on impact speed causing NFL,or NHL concussions. Ask because I was in two accidents, first,it was at about 50-60km while at a dead stop, with ongoing hits due to an unconscious driver's foot still on the gas;two was a direct hit at 60km,or slightly more while at a dead stop again.

Second collision has left me with what has been diagnosed by an Ophthalmologist as a migraine since my vision's fine, yet I get blurred vision, with blaring headaches that include flashing lights, loss of balance, sensitivity to bright lights, constantly ringing ears, loss of focus on things that require it [eg.reading text, movies, television].

Saw one Neurologist who felt there were "no neuro."issues, haven't read a second report from another yet.Concerned I am damaged, and no one is treating the injury to minimize further degradation?

I think it's very hard to judge from speed, what the severity of concussion will be. So much depends on prior history of concussion, angle of impact, if you were braced for the impact, etc. There are so many variables, it's all but impossible to quantify that.

It's been suggested in the forums here to focus on your symptoms and manage them, rather than gearing to a specific diagnosis, and I think that is a good idea. Doctors will say any number of things, not all of them accurate, not all of them helpful.

The good news is, you can do a lot for yourself, regardless of the doctor reports. Get plenty of rest, eat real food, drink plenty of water, limit screen/computer time, and monitor your symptoms to find out what works for you and what makes things worse. I have found self-monitoring to be extremely helpful over the years.

Good luck with your recovery.

I do not think it is about speed but I was hit at 75mph. I hear everyone tell me be happy I am alive.I might suggest getting your vestibular checked out :grouphug:

Nomad,

There is no way to use forces to determine injury. Every body is different. The upper neck injuries from whiplash make a head injury much worse.

A neuro will 99 out of 100 times say there is no 'neuro' because if he cannot image it or diagnose a problem with common neuro exam techniques. This does not mean you are not injured. Read the www.tbilaw.com and www.subtlebraininjury.com web sites. You will be better informed than most doctors who examine you for attorneys.

There is a world renowned specialist in whiplash at Oregon Health and Science names Micheal Freeman DC. He has studied the forces at a research level.

Injuries do not degrade without external influences like toxins, stress, illness, etc. Lack of diagnosis and treatment does not mean much except when you need to recover financially in litigation.
