Syringomyelia and Airplanes
Hey folks
I recently learned that I have developed syringomyelia after some surgeries for astrocytoma removal and later corrective spinal surgery. I actually just learned this last Monday, and I'm flying overseas for my wedding this Monday, April 27th. I haven't been able to see a specialist this week, but I'm devouring all the internert resources I can on the problem. What I can't find info on is if the condition is worsened to the point of fatality or paralysis while in flight. I can't really think of a reason it would because the cabin is pressurized, but if the fluid expands too much it can put pressure on my spinal cord. But I've packed some pain killers to combat any immediate pain such as headaches, back pain etc. Has anyone been told not to fly with the condition? |
