Pain Med Detox, Havent Slept in 8 Days
 
I really mean it, I have not slept at all in 8 days. I was in detox for 10 days and I suffered in there. I thought it would be easy when I got out, but I fcant sleep at all. I got back from detox 6 days ago, the last 2 days there i didnt sleep.

I am in utter exhaustion, its unbearable. At night I have panic attacks and break down in tears because I am so tired but I know I cant sleep. Part of my problem is my restless legs that get muscle spasms. that only ha ppens at night. Other than that its just insomnai.

My doctor prescribed me seroquil, and that doesnt even put me to sleep! I even doubled my dosage out of desperation, and I felt like I was gonna doze off but my legs hurt so bad I stayed awake.

I think I am gonna give up, I cant take this anymore. I need sleep. This could cost me my job if I have to take anoher day off. WHAT IS THE POINT OF DETOX IF YOU FEEL SO CRAPPY WHEN YOU COME OUT??? argh it infuriates me. No wonder 98% of all opiate addicts relapse after detox!!! Help me please!!

Hi and welcome to Neurotalk tho I sure am sorry for what has brought you here.

have you asked your doctor about something to help you sleep?
Your system has been through a lot of changes with the detox and this is likely what is causing the sleeplessness.

there are also calming natural things that may help, like chamomille tea or soaking in a warm tub with 2 cups epsom salts dissolved in the water. that would also help with detoxing as well as promoting relaxation. There are stronger herbal sleep aids, but I am not sure if they would interact with the seroquil so am hesitant to mention them.

perhaps other members here can offer tips to help too

I do hope your system begins to stabilize soon so that you can rest and recover from this ordeal

Hi. Have you considered Melatonin.

It has helped me and my husband a great deal to fall asleep soundly at night.

Look it up on the internet and then you can make a decision.

It's not habit forming, it's not a sedative, it just worked.

Give it some thought.

Sounds like restless leg syndrome. Are you taking anything for it? Have you told your doctor and if not why? You will sleep. Your body and brain can only go for so long before it will go to sleep. Whether you know it or not you have probably been getting some sleep and have not been realizing it. Couple minutes here and there. It happens when you are exhausted and stressed.

When I got clean and sober it took two years before I came even close to having a decent nights sleep. I still need help and suffer from insomnia. I took seroquel for sleep too but found that it did little and caused tiredness and moodiness the next day. Now I use Ambien CR which works best for me and doesn't give me that sleep aid hangover the next day. Not for everybody though. It takes approximately 2 years for your body and brain to get back to anything even resembling it's predrug abuse form so you may have a while.

If you don't mind my asking why do your legs hurt? Does it have anything to do with your pain med addiction? sorry, not trying to be nosy, just trying to understand.

A calming routine every night is a great way to go whether or not you have to do the same dang thing for a year and you still don't sleep good. That way your body and brain say, hey, it must be time to shut down to go to sleep. They'll catch on.

I hope you get some relief soon. I know how awful it is to lose out on sleep. I have been missing out for almost 9 years lol.

Please do not give up!! You WILL get thru this!
I do remember my withdrawl from alcohol.....I took 3 weeks to get to the point where I could sit at my own table and have a tea. During that time my mind went crazy....my body, I thought, would not survive. My stomach killed me. My cravings were tremendous. My legs went from crawling the sheets to spasms. I really wondered if I would ever get thru it. I too could not sleep. I laid there numb at times but most of the times I just plain suffered. It is NOT easy and I am so sorry that you are going thru it. This is likely one of the most difficult things you will go thru in your life....you CAN do this. A minute at a time if need be. It IS worth every bit of the incredible discomfort that you are experiencing...
You will not regret it.
I have came from my own personal h*ll and now my life is wonderful! It is far from perfect but I would never go back to where I was. (I sure would not want to go thru withdrawl again!!)
Life IS beautiful and you will get there. You will be OK and you will reap the benefits of being clean...you will..just hang in there!!
I really like the effect of melatonin as Mel suggested. If it does not work right away do not stop taking it....it will help your body develop a sleep cycle..or it should. Give it a try! It is not expensive.
Next thing you know you will be wking up from a good sleep and sitting at YOUR table hving a nice tea!!!
