Electric Blankets and cancer risk???
 

Hi Everybody,

I was really sick Monday night and when I got back to bed about 3:30am it took me another hour to get back to sleep because my feet and hands were freezing, sooooo.... I went to Walmart and bought an electric blanket last night.

I slept so well, 13 hours! And I didn't have any back or shoulder pains! :)

Does anybody know if there's a cancer risk from sleeping in an electrical field? I've read this over the years but don't know how valid it is. I plan to use this on cold nights now.

Oh I hope not. We have used both an electric blanket and electric bed mat for years now.

Hun, I don't think you have much to worry about, your cold McDonald's is more likely to cause cancer than your electric blanket. :hug:

I've never heard of a cancer risk from using an electric blanket. My cats sleep on one every day.......I sure hope it's not dangerous! :eek:

But, I am more than willing to take my chances and keep using my electric throw blanket for my legs - it helps soooo much with the pain this time of year. I have also been known to use it even in the summer :rolleyes:

I will not use an electric blanket on my bed anymore. Did it for a long time but, started having sensations that would wake me up, as if I was on fire and burning :eek:

I used it again last night and it felt so good, I think I'll be using this from now on! :) I woke up though and it had stopped during the night. I might need to take it back for a different one?

Your kitties are so lucky! Rocky might like one for himself too! He got on it last night for the first time and he curled right up thinking he'd struck gold. A warm spot without a lap attached, lol.

The one I have has an automatic cutoff after 10 hours.....must be a safety thing. You might want to look it up on the Internet...whatever brand you have might have a website and instructions for use.

I have an electric throw (not as big as an electric blanket, and doesnt seem to get as warm as an electric blanket would)

I refused to use it for two years because it would always make my numbness feel worse. I started using it again a few days ago because I'm freezing all the time here now. (gas fireplace in the basement that helped keep the draft from the back door down a bit malfunctioned a few weeks ago...nearly caused a fire. It's being replaced next month)

It better not be a cancer risk. I've actually been enjoying using an electric blankie again. I've been putting it on my computer chair to warm up the chair, with a regular blanket on top of it. Once the chair is warm, I can sit down with both blankets and be toasty warm while reading the forums and watching television on the internet.

I think I'll read the instructions tonight... I've had it set on low, and the past two nights it stopped, the light was blinking. I'm thinking it might be a thermostat thing, that when it reaches a level of warmth it goes into neutral?

The first night I had it set on high all night and it ran straight through the night, though we felt like we'd been broasted by morning, lol.



It's amazing how we can come to appreciate these things! :) If I knew how much it would have helped with pain I would have started using one years ago! Cancer, Shmancer. :)

I've read about it on and off - but don't really know and I hope not because I use a heating pad quite often for my aches and pains.:)

I did move our clock radio across the bedroom so it isn't right by our heads.
Same with the kids & their clock radios.
We also have a water bed with a electric heater, but we added a memory topper on it so we only need to turn on the heat during winter.
Plus I hope the EMF is less since it has to go through the thickness of the mattress:D
