I don't know where to post this but my local freecycle email group has an offer for a Zippie childs wheelchair up to 90#. It reclines. I'm waiting for a response to see if it is still available.

If anyone has need of one I'll pick it up and ship it to you.

I pointed her to the forum here because she has other childrens medical items that may be of use to someone without insurance for their child.

yes I remember they had that swap forum. it was fairly new I think. i never ventured much away from the computer forum, but I remember seeing it.

I've been w/o insurance and as an adult I know how hard it is. For a child I can't imagine. I hope she comes and posts here herself. It looks like a very sturdy wheelchair.

Hi, I am the one that has the wheelchair. Thanks for posting this Dorry. I don't know what it would cost to ship this thing. Your picture is almost accurate. If someone needs this and we can figure it how to get it to you, I will take pictures of it and post them. This chair is used and the padding is a bit worn, but not a big deal. The chair just needs to be cleaned up. I think I also may have two other wheelchairs stores at my mother's house, but I will need to check and check their condition and see what kind they are.

Hi MistyLT and WELCOME! I'm glad you came and it's so nice to meet someone from my neck of the woods on here. I don't know what disease your child has, but there are many parents on the forum that are helpful with disease info and support.

I don't know what it would cost either, but I would think up to $100. for anywhere in the country should get it shipped. As I said I'd be happy to do that for whoever is in need.

You've both given me ideas on what to do with my chair when I graduate to a lighter weight one.

i love helping ppl find ways to get what they need when funds are limited. when i heard from KT by email, I knew her heart was to give the wheelchair to someone in need only and agreed with her.

when I got a $1k supination splint ( thru a state rehab) for my wrist when I was in PT for RSD several years ago, I found out it could snap my porous bone and was too scared to use it. I even had to sign a paper that I wouldn't hold the PT liable. Scared the crap out of me, so I put it in a closet!

then about 5 months later since the state rehab didn't want it, I called the PT clinic and asked if I could donate it to them to use in their clinic for ppl like me with no insurance. They were happy to get it.

now if I could just get back the crutches that my husband gave away (nice stainless ones for tall legs!) on one of our many moves. My feet do something strange out of the blue and it feels like they're broken.

I've had it happen so often I know nothing is really broken and by the next day (usually) it will pass. But crutches would be nice when I have a full bladder and the thought of getting out of the chair is too excruiating :eek: :D

Whooo-hooo :). Dorry & MistyLT, my doctor wrote the Rx today for me to get a new lightweight chair. This weekend, I'll start looking (at med. suppliers near home). If things work out well, I'll be able to apply the idea I attained - by your example :D.


(Too, I've been wondering, if possibly, a walker or rollator - if I've spelled that correctly - might be something that could help, Dorry. I use a cane when chair or scooter isn't a need. I'll see if my doctor will give me a copy of a magazine I saw in her waiting room; it's about crutches and had an excellent article on how to use them for stairs.)
