Reflux drugs linked to Alzheimer's:

This is a very interesting article... as the negative side effects for the PPIs, keep rising.

Another negative for me, MrsD. I've been on Lansoprazole for years and others like Zantac before. For me they are a necessary evil - I suffer with ulcers and instant excess acid, pain and burning, if I take nothing. For years before the Lansoprazole I got through a bottle of Gaviscon every 3 days!

What can you do?

Dave.

DGL has been a small miracle for me. I ended up with an ulcer from a pharma drug back in the 80's and know there is a weakness there...ulcer is healed but I'm so careful. Somehow I found DGL otc supplement.

So that's the cause of my 'senility' :p
I was erroneously put on omaprazole for misdiagnosed reflux before my Addison's diagnosis!

I don't mean to be flippant about Alzheimer's but it was interesting to read the statistic about 70% of the prescriptions being inappropriate. I've also read elsewhere that as many as 15% of people in care for dementia and/or Alzheimer's are incorrectly diagnosed - similarly many of those in care are inappropriately prescribed tranquilizers or antidepressants solely to make them easier to look after with fewer staff.
