Help - Trigeminal Neuropathy & burning mouth

My sister has been very sick for 4 years. She does not have Trigeminal Neuralgia. Symptoms: Left side of face numb and swollen: gums, palate, half of her tongue, left nostril and left cheek up to top of her head and down to her chin and to left ear. She has constant tightening and squeezing feeling. Numbness etc. never goes away. When she trys to eat symptoms increase including squeezing, burning and tightening feeling. She has been to many doctors cannot find any damage in MRI scans or other tests. She is dying on her feet. Does anyone know of a case like this or a treatment for her.
Would the Novalis procedure help her?
Thank you for your help. Please respond.

Annette Coscia hello and welcome to neuro talk.
I have anesthesia dolorosa and the symptoms you decribed sound very much like mine. the thing that i do not get is you said nothing showed on an mir.
i can share with you that i have a neuro stimulator that helps me and probly saved my life. I cant have an mri because of my stimulator but i know that before i had it implanted my xray scan thing did show my lower right trigeminal nerve snapped, dammaged . so maybe it would be a good idea to search anesthesia dolorsa and see if anything relates to your sister.
I am here if you want to talk or ask questions. it dose sound like some type of neuralgia thought even if it dose not show on any mri ...it dose not always show up and that is a fact. you are a great sister to be helping and searching on behalf of your sister.!!
let me know if i can be of help.
many blessing to you.
Peace BMW

I'm so sorry that I'm unable to answer your question Annette, but I see BMW has given you some excellent advice. I wanted to welcome you to NeuroTalk anyway.

It sounds like your sister has been going through a really horrid time, and although she doesn't have trigeminal neuralgia, I was wondering if it would be worthwhile posting your question in that forum anyway. You never know when some-one else may have gone through something similar.

In case you haven't found it, here's the link: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum26.html
