Vitamin D / Ergo 50,000

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has had these same symptoms when taking Vitamin D Ergo 50,000 prescription. My Dr has put me on this once a week for 3 months due to my deficiency, my labs came back showing my levels at 12 which is low. So I started taking the pill once a week and after two weeks I noticed my throat started to hurt. It would hurt to swallow anything cold and I felt like my throat was clogged sometimes after I ate. It was painful at times, so i tried to see if this was a symptom and the Doctor said I shouldn't have any symptoms but when I stopped taking them I noticed the throat problem went away and it's been 3 weeks since I took the last pill.

I need to get my vitamin D up but I'm scared to start taking that pill again. I ordered some Jarrows Vitamin D from amazon to try, and I'm hoping that will work.

D2 ergocalciferol does not work. Don't waste your time on it.

Buy OTC D3, which is very inexpensive and take daily instead.

A rough estimate is 1000IU D3 for every 10 pts you need to raise,
from your testing results.

Your lowest goal should be about 50.

Some reading for you:

There are many articles now on the net published by medical journals etc explaining the move away from D2 ergo to OTC D3 cholecalciferol, and here is one example:

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/237943.php

There are also topical creams now, to avoid oral completely.
Search Amazon to find them, or iherb.com

Thanks for a fast response, nice to know I wasted time, money and pain on the stupid Ergo pill. Good thing I didn't pay to much for it. I ordered Jarrow Formulas Vitamin D3, 5000IU, 100 Softgels from Amazon so I'm going to start taking those. I already take the Jarrows Methyl B12 Lozenges for my B12 defciency and I like those so we shall see.

I take d3 because my level was also low. I am on 10, 000mg a day. My doc told me to take iit with whatever meal contains most fat as d3 is fat soluable. I use d3 produced by metagenics lab. What I have read the lab has very good reputation. Their products can olny be purchased thru a doctor, dentist or chiropractor

I don't know anything about metagenics other than their products seem obscenely overpriced, however they can be gotten from (it seems like) most any online outlet, including Amazon. Just do a google shopping search.

I take Ostelin D3 1000iu a day and within a month my Vitamin D level increased from severely deficient to moderately deficient. I was a bit disappointed and thought it should be higher but my GP said that Vit D is always hard to increase and just takes time. On prescription it cost me $5.90 without prescription it's $39.00

I was told that within another month it should be in normal range.

I've never had any side effects from the tablet whatsoever.

Oh, I forgot, my calcium level was below normal and it's now in the normal range.

Shows what an important vitamin that D really is!

I am showing thru Google searches that Ostelin is composed of D2. Does the label say what is in it? D2 is of limited effectiveness. Its your choice.
(ergocalciferol).

It definitely says D3 on the bottle and was prescribed by a specialist Physician.

Cholecalciferol.

mrsD 11-11-2013 11:35 PM

Then it has recently been reformulated looks
like. This is happening with many products
and also food enhancements. The sites online
Have not been updated yet. I suspected that
Since a poster we have on PN who lives in the
UK says D2 is no longer used there.

1000iu will be limiting however. The experts
Suggest 1000iu for every 10 points you need
to raise so you may hit a plateau below which
you need to be at.
