Breakthrough pain when on Meds

Curious about other people's experiences with breakthrough episodes of pain that happen when you are on meds that control the pain or at least keep the pain level low.

Last night I had an episode that started with my face feeling like it was being burned. That went away and the the normal pain set in. The burning is a completely new sensation. I take 600mg Tegretol a day and discovered by accident that the NSAID Indocin is essential to keep most of the pain away, most of the time.

Do your medications change the kind of pain you have?
Are the episodes less intense when taking meds?

Fortunately last night's pain episode only lasted 12 hours. I am exhausted today, but the pain is down to a level 2-3 again.

I have been on some medications that have changed the type of pain. I usually have typical pain, but while on depakote I had mostly atypical pain (burning sensation).

Weird, huh? I hope your pain stays away.
