Convergence insufficiency
 

I just had a vision exam and Dr. Diagnosed me with convergence deficiency. This explains lot of my symptoms like headaches, eye strain, and difficulty concentrating. Hes optimistic that vision therapy may help.

Does anyone else have this and what has been your experience with vision therapy? It's sort of relieving to know I'm not crazy(like all the neuropsych's/family think) and there's something I can do about my symptoms.

I had the exact same issue, with vision therapy it has mostly resolved along with some visual sensitivities.

yes! It was a MAJOR breakthrough in understanding why I felt like hell four months after an accident. Vision therapy has been so good and I have improved so much in six months of doing it. You need to do it every day, and exercise your vision in your activities of daily life. I was prescribed prisms in my glasses one year post accident to give my brain a break AND to further develop new pathways to use my eyes better (neuroplasticity). It is an amazing area and I think eveyone who has a brain injury/concussion needs to get checked....not by an optometrist but a neuro opthamologist and or behavioural optomitrist. I have 20/20 vision ....but the brain and eyes don't work! Was able to type on a computer a few weeks after getting prisms. A major breakthrough! Hang in there!!!!

It is good to hear of your major progress, mokey, through both the vision therapy, and the prism lenses allowing you to now comfortably work a bit on computer. Congratulations.

Have you encountered any difficulties in adapting/adjusting to the prism lenses?

I ask because I was one year ago Rxd prism lenses by the neuro-ophthalmologist to whom I was referred. I have not yet been able to have the rxd eyeglasses made, because I still have not a way to afford them.

Just wondering if you found there was any sort of adjustment period to feel comfortable with the prism lenses?

Hi Theta,

It took me about a month to adapt (headaches etc.) and now it is fine. Mine lenses (reading and distance ) cost 140 each (i used old frames). I now need computer distance ones :( but should be grateful that I can now use computer!

My neuro opth. Also prescribed blue blocker tint at 10%, because blue light is the most complex in the spectrum for the brain to deal wi, and blocking a bit out frees up the brain to do other things. If you can afford it, i hope you give it a try. Hang in there!

To be able to use old fames would make it imminently more affordable for me!
