Post Crainiotomy/Muscles Atrophied in Neck

I had a crainiotomy on Dec. 1. They wanted to do a bypass but couldn't due to a really torn artery. A clip was the result. I now am having severe neck and head muscle atrophy. You can feel all the bones of my skull on the left side of my head and neck. I have had acupuncture, massage, physical therapy, cortisone shots in my neck and head and nothing relieves the pain. I also have wierd little jolts across the back of my incision area. Nerve damage i think. No doctor can seem to help me. Also my right leg has just started doing a peg leg type thing. It clomps periodically. I am 7 months post surgery. Any thoughts, ideas or help. I am 51, love to golf and play tennis, but as it is, that won't happen anytime in the near future. Thank you.

Hi

Julieann,

Welcome to NeuroTalk. I am so sorry to hear of the pain you are in. I've not had any surgeries so unfortunately don't have any suggestions for you there. Hopefully, someone will come along and be able to anwer give you some help.

You might take a look at the useful sights up above where it says "Sticky". there may be more information gathered from those sites.

Wishing you all the best.

Hi julieann - I'm so very sorry this has happened.... especially after something so already as scary as a craniotomy.

Could I suggest that you change to a different hospital? Have you tried a university hospital?

I had my first brain surgery - left temporal lobe - to remove a tumor, Feb., 2006 and the second, to stop seizures, May, 2007, and I'm doing just fine.

I spend a lot of time on a brain surgery web site and everyone there is in favor of university hospitals with certain ones as the favorites.

Please keep talking here and let us know how things are going. I'll say a prayer for you and be waiting to hear how you are.
