hi new to this site, please help!

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how there cathadural injections went, and if it sounds like the one i had sounds like it was okl\

I had the five day epedural where i was to have medication shots in a epedural, once every day for five days, this was suppose to put my leg and foot to sleep, and hope the brain disconects the pain signals, dxd rsd in my right foot origianally.\

well the first day I had the procedure to install the epedural cathadural in my lower back and then the doctor was to do the first injection of meds.\

well we he put the first injection of meds in this is what i felt,\
\
as soon as the medication entered my body, i felt extrem burning, I could fell everywhere the medication traveled, and when it finally made ifs way into my right leg, my leg went on fire, it felt like acid burning my inside of my leg out!! I was screaming in extreme pain, the doctor stopped the injection.

he just said, are you sure the medication is burning?? I said yes, because I could feel it making its way from my back all the way down to my toes.\

my doctor stopped the procedure and he had to give me alot of pain meds to stop the pain i was in. i was there for four hours to recovery and when i left, i had to be wheeled out cause the medication he injected in my back that was suppose to go in the right leg had spread to my left leg only my left leg was dead numb!! well the doctor said for me to come back the next morning cause he wanted to try it again, (this was a five day job), so i came back the next morning, and the same thing!!

my left leg and my whole waist area and my right arm, and the right side of my face where numb, for weeks. is this sound ok to you, is this whats suppose to happen?? All the doctor kept telling me is, it takes time, it well stop sooner or later!!

well, all the numbness went away except my left leg, and it stayed numb for an entire year! the procedure was for my right leg, and all it did to it is make it hurt 20 times worst, it stayed flared for months after that, \
I needed a wheel chair, but the doctor said no.\

i would like to hear how you feel about this, did it go the way it should,???
My doctor will not speak to me about it at all, like it never happened!!

I've never had that procedure done, but I know what you describe happened to you is NOT right at all!!! Even with what little I know about it to begin with I know that reaction isn't normal. It's supposed to help take the pain away. I don't understand why he kept on doing it though. Clearly, from the reaction you had on the first injection, you had a really bad reaction. My first thought was maybe you had an allergic reaction, but that's usually the first thing I think when I hear things didn't go right with something like this. LOL

I'll make a guess as to why he's pretending it didn't happen......because he KNOWS he was WRONG!!!! He knows that he shouldn't have continued to give the injections to you based upon your first reaction. It should've been stopped then and there.

I'm so sorry you went through that. *big, gentle hugs*

Hugs,

Karen

I haven't had this procedure done either but have spoken to several others that have had it and this NEVER happened to them at all!!

I am so very sorry that you have had to go through all of this . I have had a Ketamine epidural before and I never had what you report happen, the only thing that happened to me was that it made my whole left leg numb for a few hours (which it was supposed to do).

I have had a Guanethidine nerve block before which is where they inject directly into your limb(s) affected by RSD and that caused me to have some pretty severe side effects. Before I had the nerve block, I was getting around on crutches but as soon as I woke from having the block, I couldn't walk at all. Everytime I tried to stand, my left leg would just throw itself out in front of me and I would fall to the floor.

We spoke to my doctor about the reaction I had and because he had never seen this happen before, he just kept saying that it couldn't happen and that I was faking it!! It was only when me and my mum went and had a look on the internet that my mum saw an article stating that you should NEVER inject directly into an RSD limb unless it is absolutely neccasary. We printed the details off and showed them to my doctor but he still said that this couldn't happen.

Eventually, my mum and myself had had enough so we went to a different hospital and the Pain Management Doctor there knew that I wasn't faking the problems and said that this complication could happen with the type of block I had. My doctor should have warned us about the potential risks involved but he didn't - he just said he was doing a nerve block and that it could reduce my pain so of course, we said "Do it"!!

My Doctor is a lot more understanding now but I can never forgive him for what happened. I really think that he KNEW he did something wrong and that he wouldn't admit to it because he knew it could get him into a lot of trouble.

I am so very sorry that you have had to go through all of this ((hugs)). It isn't right that your doctor wont talk to you about what happened and you shouldn't be treated this way at all!! Is there any way you could go and see another doctor? I would try and get in to see another doctor in your area if there is one ... sometimes second and even third opinions work really well and you often find a doctor that you like and who is able to treat you. You don't deserve to go through all of this and I really hope that you are able to find something that can help you.

You are in my thoughts and if you ever need someone to talk to, I am here for you.

Get a copy of your records and get yourself to another doctor for a second opinion. Stat. Joan
