Expect many articles of this ilk, now, because of the new proposed bill in Congress for regulation of supplements.
The pro bill people are lobbying with scare articles like this. http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread158171.html The data collected on supplement research typically swings back and forth. Some is hype, some is poorly run studies...etc. Here is another example of propaganda: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread158853.html Remember RX drugs are the 4 th leading cause of death in US from errors and misuse. The FDA studies involving them are sometimes filled with fraud. |

My best guess is that some drug company has come up with some new patented (or patentable) screening process or drug. OR... some group of insurance companies have figured out screening is costing them more than people dying. (A vast oversimplification) Either way, (personal opinion) I have no doubt it's about $money$ taking precedence over good medicine. [/RANT] Doc |
The only studies with any relevance might be the large
CARET and ATBC studies on beta carotene increasing lung cancers in smokers. Beta carotene upregulates cAMP, which in turn activates PKA, a signalling. pathway ofr lung adenocarcinomas and pancreatic cancers. |
If you were look up Medline, you would find lots
of studies on tocopherol succinate (not the more common oily acetate) being a potent cancer fighter, particularly prostate and breast. Tocopherol nicotinate, the synthetic ester of niacin-bound vitamin E made by Eisai of Japan and Mack of Germany, is not a cancer fighter, but an atherosclerosis fighter, and superb cerebrovascular and peripheral vasodilator, easily outperforming ginkgo. It also knocks down Lp(a), the "heart attack cholesterol", which no drug can do. You can find it being sold in Japan as "Juvela" and in Malaysia as "Hijuven", 200 mg softgels. Mack of Germany, now under Pfizer, markets it as "Renascin" in Euirope as 100 mg softgels. |
