Sharp (crazy-sharp) pain in balls of feet?

Hi folks,

In the last 3-4 weeks I have experienced a really sharp pain in the balls of my feet when I'm in stride. It happens in either foot, but never at the same time and is so sharp that it stops me dead in my tracks and I literally scream/yelp out in pain. There doesn't seem to be any pattern ie. specific footwear or place, just that it happens when I'm walking.

Does this happen to anyone else, and what is it?

Stats...

-age 37/F
-RSD/CRPS 5.3 years, initially limited to right foot + ankle
-6 months ago: began to spread up right leg to hip
-4 months ago: spread to left leg, to hip (though not as severe as right)
-*ball of foot pain is equal in both feet
-Back muscles: extremely stiff on weekends (when I sleep more) to the point that I can only baby step & cannot function until meds have kicked in and have used heating pad for 1-2 hours.

Treatment
Spinal cord stimulator implant 2009 (stimulates both legs & feet, to hip: surgeon wasn't able to narrow stimulation at the time, so that actually worked to my benefit considering spread :)

Meds: Morphine IR & SR, Topiramate, Amitriptyline, Ibuprofen, Domperidone (nausea), Lorazepam (insomnia), Tecta (Gerd), Maxalt (migraines), Nifedripine (for Raynaud's Disease).

History: compressed disk & rotated pelvis (2003), bacterial meningitis (2007), C. Difficile (2009: left w/chronic bowel dysfunction), MRSA

Insight would be appreciated. I see my specialist for lidocaine this week and never remember everything I want to ask/tell, so the more I know ahead of time, the better.

Thanks and warm, long sleeps to you all :)

Alice

Sorry that this is happening to you. I don't have much to offer as far as insight with the pain in you feet. But I did want to suggest something that has worked for me as far as remembering things to ask the doctor. Before every appointment (usually during the whole week before) I make a list of things to ask/go over with the doctor as well as any new symptoms or changes in old ones. Then the night before the appointment I re-write it all so that it is fresh in my mind and easy to read and I put it directly into my purse so I don't forget it when I go see the doctor. Then once I get into the room I pull out the piece of paper and have it in my hands (also with a pen so I can make notes on the paper about the answers to my questions). This really helped me a lot the past year so that I didn't leave the appointments upset because I forgot to ask something.

Hope you get some answers soon about this strange pain. I get lots of weird, sharp pains in my RSD areas...just nothing specifically like you get in your feet. Good luck and take care.

Hi Alice

Glad you found Neruo Talk. I have this same problem, and it is the ball of the foot joint, or big toe joint. Very sharp pain. I am to have a joint replacement surgery at some point in the future. I sure would go to a good podiatrist, and get this x rayed. I hav DJD and it is most likely the cause of my problem. I wish you all the best. ginnie
