Has anyone any experience of Botox injections for TN?

Hi, I am fairly new to this having been diagnosed a month ago. I am managing on low dose Tegretol but I am oh so tired all the time. I am a nurse so have access to much literature and also medical colleagues for advice but few have much to say about Botox injections which seem to work for some people. For me this may be the middle ground between medication for life or surgery. Welcome thoughts and comments.

Hello and welcome Masie3 , I have never done botox but I have talked with others that have. some says it dose help but it dose not last long and need to get injections more frequent and then will reach a point where meds will need to come into play . it helps some people and usually its botox along with their med . and others say it didnt help with lowering the pain. read around the threads here there is allot of good info.
many of us are on medications.. you just started on low dose so you should be adjust to that dose hopefully you will stop feeling tired and remember it is winter less sunlight and that affects us too. if you do have botox injection let us know how it is and how you do with it. sending good energy to you. hope to see you around this is a great place for support :grouphug:

I used botox for a few years. Initially the results were miraculous, with pain relief starting after about 4 or 5 days. I would highly recommend it IF you can find someone familiar with both injecting the face and with botox. There is the chance of drooping and weakness with botox, so you really do not want someone using you as their first experiment.
I have only heard of a few other people who have tried it, but all have had some degree of pain relief. I finally had to have surgery since meds and botox were not providing enough relief. Otherwise I would have continued getting botox injections. Hope this helps!
