Health Insurance

hello everyone, im 24 yrs. old and have had seizures since I was 12. I am taking 400mg/day of dilantin and 600mg/day of lamictal. Im still having problems controlling my seizures. My problem is finding some place to cover my health insurance. I got declined from a couple places for having epilepsy. Im on my moms school insurance, but have to pay over 400 a month + sixty more for medication per month. I have to get off her insurance in a couple months, and would appreciate some help where to look.

Willis,

I have Blue Cross/Blue Sheild, which was just purchaed/merged with Anthem Insurance. They have a policy for folks like us called a Major Risk Medical Insurance Policy (MRMIP). You may want to look into what they can do for you.

Now, if the right person is elected President, this issue may not be a problem, as insurance will be much more accessible/cheaper at that time.

I hope that this helps.

Hi there Willis and welcome to NeuroTalk.

Unfortunately I can't advice you on Medical Insurance as I live in another country, but I see that Darlene has given you the link to the Epilepsy Forum.

I do hope you join in there Willis because you're bound to meet some wonderful people. NeuroTalk members are some of the nicest people I've yet to meet. I hope you find that too.

... It is most likely that, depending on the state you live in, that there is a "high risk pool" insurance available to EVERYONE that is turned down by regular health insurance providers. In MN it's called MCHA. Let me know what state you're in and I'll find it for you. You can get the forms online and most of them cover you immediately. No underwriting required.

Hi, Willis! :Wave-Hello: Welcome to NeuroTalk!

You might also get some help from your state legislature or representatives' offices. They often have a wealth of resources available. :)
