I have 2 questions re symptoms....

Hi

I have a NCV that confirms I have some sort of sensory motor polyneuropathy.

I was wondering if anyone can answer these questions...

1. anyone with a polyneuropathy find their symptoms increase tremendously while under stress?

2. anyone with sensory motor polyneuropathy have vertigo and numb on 1/2 of their face?

#1 - Yes, definitely - both physical stress and emotional stress

#2 - no, I'm not affected in my face, just hands, legs and feet

Questions

lynxgal,

yes too on stress, physical illness or emotional etc... all flare it up!

on the numbness - yes again - i have sensory and motor pn that is body-wide (including autonomic) - so my face is numb much - althought sometimes I feel it more then the others... on the vertigo - I've even seen an ENT and had some very unpleasant tests on inner ears (they just love to make you dizzy) - while my hearing is great- the nerves that control my balance in my ears have been damaged and get vertigo (spinning) when in completele darkness - have to sleep with lights on all the time - even waking up now in middle of night without light will set off an attack - so lots of night lights! The ENT said there was nothing could be done cause its due to the damage to the nerves - but at least I found I what it is and is of the minor symtoms I find an easy fix for!

Hope they find the cause!

I also have numbness on the left side of my face in the cheek area.

I do think I have a bit of vertigo. It is very slight but I can still sense a feeling of "wobblyness" when walking or turning around. I have noticied a couple of times, when walking, that my husband or son will reach out as if to catch me. So someting is happening. I am not certain it is the neuropathy or the meds....

I have sensorimotor axonal neuropathy as part of my lupus.

Stress makes no difference to my neuropathy. It's always there, no matter what. Obviously when I am tired the parts of me that have suffered motor damage are even floppier than usual, but that is just because they are tired.

I have numb parts on both sides of my face, depending on which nerve is being affected (the numbness follows area innervated by the particular nerve).

Lately my eyelids on one side of my face have gone numb - it is very weird blinking with numb eyelids.

I also have loss of motor function in half my tongue, have extensive sensory and motor damage in my legs, and am now rapidly loosing a lot of nerve function in my left (dominant) hand. Bummer.

My neuropathy never fluctuates it just deteriorates unfortunately.

cheers

raglet.
