MY PC is WEIRD~

Ok, first of all ...I'm not real PC savvy, but was wondering if anyone has an answer for me. This past wk, my laptop has been acting weird. and very slow most of the time.
Sometimes it will take me directly to a website or post, etc and other times, it just sits for a couple of minutes and then take me to the place I want it to. (but not all the time) It's not just at NT, it's when I email or do searches also.

It isn't due for defrag and I just cleaned cookies out.

Any suggestions?? I may add that I am also a little impatient...:p

Have you ran a virus scan on your computer lately???

My laptop was doing the same things... nearly threw it into the wall.... I ran a few different virus scans... because believe it or not..(I didn't) not any one will catch all viruses...

Turns out my laptop had 19 viruses!!!!!!! (don't worry anyone on here... I hadn't used it in months because of this... it's now virus clear...as far as I can tell)

Hello Abbie~ Thanks for responding. Yuppers, I ran my a full scan and I'm all clear... My DS has a backup "protection" on my pc too.
I just ran a defrag anyway, so we'll see.

Thanks~~

Is it only happening when you are connected to and using the internet? Or is your entire system slow? If it's only happening on the internet, it is possible the ISP you are using is having technical problems. :( If so, you could call and ask, if you have the patience of a saint, that is ...:p

If all else fails try a registry cleaner.

Or maybe something like System Mechanic {free trial downloads}

Thanks everyone... I ran a defrag yest and so far, it seems better today.

I also have a "key rotation" on my laptop to prevent anyone from borrowing my wireless or hacking into it and that was having trouble rotating, so I reconfigured that and it is now working at 100%. Not like anyone could tap into mine, as I live on a major hwy. It's amazing what you can learn when you just sit and try to figure things out...

No viruses, defragged, dumped cookies, closed all programs... seems to be better.... I may take your offers up if it acts up again..

thanks friends. :grouphug:

(My posts sometimes take a while to send...but I'm just impatient)

k a few things how much space is left on hard drive, how many programs verses how much memory do u have

have we cleaned it out are all the vents clean of dust and inside use a vacuum gently and or get a can of compressed air

kick it lol

u can go to savemybutt dot com and download free softwared that also spy blocks and adware cleaner and scanning 4 virus is good it has some neat products been using a few of them for years

if u go to windows udate site and get windows defender

if u got the new windows Vista it could be a mem issue for some reason and folks pay attenton if u get a new system with vista make sure u got at lesast 2 gigs of memory vista runs better on two than one and of course more than two is also good.

reboot your cable modem or dsl one they also have caches that can store a bad page

did u clean out your old temp web pages also when u cleaned your cookies, so many little things can slow down the process so i say it again kick it

Thanks Frank... I don't want to jinx myself, but I ended up calling Dell Tech Service and it was so cool, as they took control of my laptop while I was on the phone w/them. They checked everything, unloaded a bunch of carp I had on there, ran scans, basically cleaned it all out and refurbished it.

Between two phone calls, they worked on it for 2 hrs and 20 mins. BUT, the good news is that it's better.

I was getting so frustrated b/c it was running so slow, and since we have high speed internet, I was about to throw the whole thing out the window.
:Bang-Head:
*this looooong winter has made me crabby* :winky:

I will save the info and suggestions you all gave me tho....as I appreciate the help. :grouphug: :Thank you: :You-Rock:
