Can things get any worse???

Hi all,

I'm just wondering if things can get worse? Let me explain. I had my scs revision on the 22 of Nov. Long story short, I developed a horrible staph infection that put me in the hospital and then into a nursing home for a week. I'm home now, getting home nursing care for my PICC line and my open wound packing. No one can seem to figure out who has the contract for my home care, and at the moment it seems as if care givers number 3 start tomorrow. My dr. wants to have to wound cleaned and repacked twice a day and the insurance says only once a day. So it is only being done once a day. (Hubby can't do it as it hurts a lot to pull the packing out and then stuff new packing into the 5 inch long incision which is where the battery pack was). I guess I'm just feeling really sorry for myself at the moment. I don't think I will try for scs number 3. I am really sooooo tired of pain and being sick. SO of course, the rsd is going off and hurting me something fierce on top of everything else. Oh well, I know it has to get better, I don't think I could feel worse.(I know not to say that, because it could always get worse lol)

Hugs
Mary

First *BIG BIG VERY GENTLE HUGS*

I know every time I say can things get any worse they usually do. LOL I'd say, from my point of view, that for you things are pretty bad. I can't imagine the pain you're feeling with all that and rsd pain too. I think you have every right to be having a bit of a "pity party". That's a lot to deal with and then to have to deal with not having proper home care for yourself is just too much. Is it a insurance company paying for your care? I would imagine it's what you meant. I think all insurance companies are just, well, a bunch of idiots. I dealt with them on wc. I couldn't settle fast enough! There was nothing in it for me except stress, more pain and getting screwed. LOL

I sure hope you feel better and you heal fast. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

Hugs,

Karen

My heart goes out to you. I have been reading a lot of the posts on here and it does not make sense why we have to suffer like this. You are going through a lot, there are so many people here who reach out and help lift our spirits when we are really having a tough time.
I pray you will feel better soon.
Is there someone who can help you fight the insurance company? I never understood, nor will I understand how the insurance can over rule a doctors orders...
Take care of yourself and get as much rest as you can.

Oh Mary, i'm so sorry you are going through all of this now . I really hope that you start feeling better soon and I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

I know what you mean about wondering whether things can get any worse and I have to agree with Karen that when I think they can't, they usually do! The thing that I find really helps me is seeing people that have severe RSD and seeing how they hardly complain and just try to get on with their life - it really helps make me realise that things could always be worse and that I have to be grateful for what I can do.

Don't ever feel guilty for writing how you feel, we are all here to listen and support you and most of us DO understand some of what you are going through.

If you ever want to talk, I am here for you. Sending you many gentle, pain-free hugs.

Please keep us updated when you can.

Love, Alison

Hi Mary and soft hugs,

I'm so sorry about your complications. Staph is serious and difficult to get rid of. It CAN spread in your system, that's why the dr. wants twice a day repacking and cleaning. Do you think you could call his office and tell them how bad you feel and they are only cleaning it once a day. Ask for a prescription to the insurance company and a copy sent to you for your medical file. Insurance company wouldn't dare go against his orders his writing with a carbon copy to you. You don't want staph in your body or spreading!

You'll get well faster. It's the pits to have complications. I've never had staph but I've known others, including my Mom. Did he put you on antibiotics? Please take care and let us know how you are doing. We all care, Loretta P.S. I wrote last night, but it didn't go thru.

Thank you all so very much for you good thoughts and gentle hugs. Things are looking up now. The insurance has finally been settled, everything is going to be pain for, hospital, nursing home, and home health care, including 2 packings a day. Now that it is settled, I can relax some. I go see the surgeon today, and I'm thinking he will take out the stitches that are running down my back. I know that will help moving around. I still have another 5 weeks on the PICC line. I wish they could make an antibiotics that didn't make you smell like you were sick. :D Still can't take a shower, and will not be able to until my wound closes up on it own. I can't wait .

Hugs
Mary
